Xp key question

I have a friend who said that you can enter in a new cd key whit out haveing to reformat. I told him he was crazy and he told me to d some research so is this true or is he not so smart? And another thing he said he is haveing trouble downloading sp 2 for xp. would anyone know what might be causeing that?

hes right, with the right program you can enter in a new cd key, but guess what? Sp2 checks the Cdkey, if it matches a known pirate, then it wont install, or if you do manage to get it that far, it will mess up ur system.

a friend of mine successully did it, but he said that you just had to find the right CD key to slap on there. once you do, then everythign should work alright

I see no useful connection between having a valid CD key and needing to change it. This activity is typically only useful for someone with pirated software.
