OK so i did a great and wonderful google search then chose one of the websites that came up and boom! norton antivirus hit me with atleast 4 virus warnings, antleast 10 different web pages came up and a bunch of installers. well i canceled or [X] out all the installers closed everything down, and proceeded to run a spyware/virus scans. I got rid of everything that was found did a restart and eded up with some spyware warning message as my desktop. went in and closed that down, entered msconfig and made sure nothing that wasnt suppose to start up started up, then hopped on IE to see if i got any pop ups or whatever.

Well no pop ups but what i did notice is that my IE is set to use a proxy now...

The wierd thing is the proxy is 127.0.0.1 port 1080 i believe. Now the IP is my network card's IP address no? so technically im not really running through a proxy, just my network card? This isnt going to hurt anything security related right?

even when i shut the proxy off exit IE and come back its right back to the proxy....

Im thinking of just doing a good ole' reformat, but i figured id ask here first.

People sometimes do that on purpose to disable Internet Explorer so it doesn't go anywhere. Check the registy and make sure nothing really is loading up and changing it, because IE should stay put once you turn proxy off.

the wierd thing is it still works even with the proxy, its just kidna slow..

i have firefox and tested that so i knew it was specific to IE thats why i went in and checked and discovered taht. I think it was another proxy # at one point, but after virus/spyware scanning it just goes to my network cards IP.
