I recently formatted two of my friends' hard drives (wiping out everything and installing a fresh copy of windows xp). Everything went smoothly but every time I restart either one of their computers I see the old "Microsoft WIndows XP Home Edition" and the new one at the bootup. It forces me to select either one (Of course the old one doesn't work). I cant figure out how to get rid of the second one or why its even there. Both of my friends are using dell computers. One has XP Home and the other has XP Professional. I checked the number of partitions on both computers and there is only one. Anyone have any ideas?

Delete your old windows folder if it's still in your C: drive, most probably it isnt cus when u select it , it doesnt work. Then, go to START>RUN type MSCONFIG, go to a tab that says BOOT.INI and click on a button that says "Check All Boot Paths" and that should solve ur problem. This should work on both Home and Pro editions. good luck.
