VERY minor problem. whatever "steam.exe" is will not show the right icon.
if you do not use that program and just do not want to see the error in norton. then just delete that registry key.
if you do use that program maybe you can reinstall it. possibly the icon got corrupted or something.
everything will still work fine though. i would not bother. its not going to cause windows to crash or anything (unlike having norton product installed :) )

if i delete the registrey will it screw up steam? its a bitch to reinstall the program since hl2 is preloaded and all the other stuff downloaded on it.

I second that. just wondering how is it useless, are the errors it fixes pointless or it doesnt fix anything? i just formated too, so i just installed steam and everything. this is the first error i got for steam, and its telling me it has an error, but it doesnt seem like a big error very very minor, still just wondering what i can do to fix it(hopefully without reinstalling steam) steam still runs fine right now and all the icons seem to work just fine also.

all the error is, is setting what the icon is for steam. so maybe it shows the wrong one. if windows can not find one in the exe it will just use some default windows one instead

it might take 0.01 seconds longer to do that when you look in the steam folder. but apart from that it is not a problem.

really if the program works ok do not worry about that error.

just wondering how is it useless It cant fix big errors... And most small error are either really easy to clear or totally pointless to solve anyway (as shown in your prob)

Its main issue actually is that it is supposed to be a windoctor, but most big (and mostly common) windows errors are only fixable thru the repair console or in safe mode. Both modes in which the program doesnt function...

In summary, it doesnt solve shit...

In summary, it doesnt solve shit... do u think i should just dump the program, if i did a scan once a week i might find like ten errors. but as u say there stupid errors that dont need fixing. but i do think nortan speed disk is a good tool.(kind of like a defragmenter)heres an example why,i was trying to do sandra file system benchmark, and it said i had like 48 fragments and the drive needed to be degragmented. so i boot into safe mode and defragmented the drive. tried the test again and got like 20 fragments still. so i tried to defragement again and still no luck. so i tried speed disk and that worked like a champ.

Speed disk is good. In fact, the defrag program that MS has been including since DOS 6 and up has been licensed from Norton. Disk Keeper is another good defrag utility. But any program that claims to fix registry errors and Windows problems always has the same result: useless. They can only fix minor problems and only if they themselves are working properlyl in the first place. I've seen several systems destroyed due to WinDoctors and Registry Helper apps that did more harm than good. Uninstall WinDoctor and forget you ever had it.

Actually

Defrag utility on XP was made by the folks that also made Diskeeper (its a sorta diskeeper lite). Though its true that MS used the same defrag from dos 6 till Me...

Rightclick on it and tell Norton Windoctor to Ignore it.

When this condition is on, and you search for steam.exe, where do you find it, and if missing, what removes it ?
