Hi everyone, I just got my 300 GB sata drive in the mail and for some reason I cant get it to read over 137 GB.
I have service pack 2, and have edited the registry (1) to allow for 48 bit LBA support.
Running windows XP pro.
I have an MSI K8N-Neo Platinum and have updated the bios.
I can create another partition but really just want one big drive.
PLEASE help, I've been annoyed for hours now, hehe

That could be the first problem. There's no need to edit the registry. Once SP1 is installed, everything is in place for larger drivers.
It sounds like you formatted this drive before you had any service packs installed. That's why you have a 137 GB partition, but Drive Management can see the unallocated space. This is expected, and it means your PC is reading the drives size correctly. XP doesn't magically change partition sizes, as Bill Gates disabled XP's ESP features to read your mind to know what you want as your drive layout. If you want to resize your existing partition to use the whole drive, you will need something liek Partition Magic.

ESP feature, har har. :p
For some reason I figured I wouldnt have to make a whole new partition, thanks for the tip I'll try it.

That's the beauty of Partition Magic....it resizes an existing partition with no data loss.

Yes, it worked, thanks a ton man, wish the windows manager worked as well.
I was just confused because I thought microsoft said it would be recognized as soon as SP2 was installed, I guess it was, but like you say I had to make one large partition afterwards.
cheers,
