Huh? questions..

Ok, I've barely ever touched my hard drives. They've all been working OK etc. But I felt it was time to upgrade my old one 20gb one. So I looked through what was available and a Raptor (74/10k) catched my eye. But it uses a S-ATA connector.. wtf is this? Do I need to buy a extra card for this?

Also, since I thought a 10k rpm drive would be pretty hot I thought of buying this (http://www.coolermaster.com/index.php?LT=english&Language_s=2&url_place=product&p_serial=LHD-V04&other_title=+LHD-V04+CoolDrive%), does it work with the drive?

My brother got a 160gb IBM disk, are there any issues with these drives (got scared after they were refered to as "deathstar"??)?

That connector is just that....a SATA connector. So, you need an SATA port on your motherboard, which I am guessing, you do not have. Most people would have figured this part out by now, but no point in going off on that tangent. I'm guessing you'd be wasting your money buying a Raptor unless you had the motherboard to handle it.

I have 2 Raptors, and I don't think they get any hotter. You just want to make sure your case has good cooling across the drives. Buying an exra hard drive cooler never hurts, but often isn't needed.

The IBM drives are notoriously unstable, but that doesn't mean every single one is...just a higher percentage. If I was him, I'd make sure the drive is mounted correctly, and has good cooling from the case. This is the primary reason I only buy CoolerMaster and Lian Li cases.

You can buy a PCI card like this http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=16-115-014&depa=0 that will handle the SATA drive

IBM made a batch of disks some years ago that were very prone to failure.
Hence the name "Deathstar".
If your drive is not one of that batch then it should die at the same rate as anyother drive dies at.......

and the 20GBs were not the drives that had a problem ;)
however that drive is getting long in the tooth
