I am building a video editing computer and would like to use the latest P4 CPU and DDRII RAM. I am looking at a few Intel 925X based mobos and noticed the ASUS P5AD2 has 2 SATA controllers. Would this be benificial if I want to connect 2 harddrives in raid and a seperate system SATA harddrive on the other controller? Would a motherboard with a single controller have slower transfer if I use 2 SATA connectors for the RAID and a third for the system harddrive?

video editing needs high performance HD in my opinon, quicker loading, faster writing so on..

so raid 0 and if u wanna keep ur data safe, do raid 0 + 1

I know that. RAID 0 will be used. I am wondering about connecting a separate application haddrive to a different controller or the sane controller and if it makes a difference

With SATA you only get 1 drive per controller so I don't quite see the problem.

If they are all SATA they will each be on their own controller, even if some of them are RAID and some are not.

The answer is probably yes.
You will need to look a the motherboards block diagram and see which bus each controller is connected to.
Are they both independent busses or is one on the PCI bus, etc, etc.
Then its a case how much load you will be putting on each controllers bus before you add the drives data.

Luck............ :D

True but SATA drives are not fast enough even in RAID 0 to saturate the PCI bus, so he really doesn't have to worry about it. If he were running multiple RAID 0 or 10 or 4 drive RAID 0 he might start caring. But as it is he will be fine.
