This is bugging the hell out of me. I have Half life, blue shift, and opposing force installed (I don't give a shit about CS, its a stupid ass game) but to play online I need steam (of course). I install steam, but it doesn't detect I have those games installed. wtf? I just reformatted my computer, but before everything worked fine. anyone know what's up with my steam program?

thanks :)

Key is that you don't have to have the games installed to use steam. All you do is install steam, enter your key, and it will give you access to all the games that key is valid for (for HL, you get like CS, TFC, etc). You don't ever need to even touch the HL CD, it will download the game when you want to play it.

correct, with steam there really is no need for the original disks at all, just the cd-keys.

When you download steam (either the small installer or the installer including cache files already) it installs and downloads all the content for the games for you. You should probably just uninstall the old installations of those games. Steam downloads the full games onto your computer, then just do the "register a product i already own" and if its a cd-key from the Platinum pack then it will unlock everything for you (except condition zero) o/w a certain games cd-key will just unlock that specific game.

oh fuck no! it says its already registered! OF COURSE IT IS!!!!! wtf do I do now?

NO fucking way, they want me to buy the fucking game again!!!!! Because I cant remember the account I used before, that the cd code was registered to. Fuck steam! fuck half life! fuck it. TFC isn;t that important to me to buy the whole fucking game over.

sorry for the excessive swearing, dammit, I'm sooo pissed. Steam can kiss my ass

btw, thanks for all your help! :p

You might want to try to remember that account you registered the cd key to, or other wise...

the thing is, when I do the user recovery, I type all the email addresses I've ever had, but none of them work!!!!! Even my current email address doesn't work, that I use with my new name. dammit, how do I email steam? They are going to get their asses flamed by me

before you do such a stupidty.

Calm down and write to them CALMLY. Explain the situation. The programming adage works here to.. garbage in garbage out. If you "flame" them. That email will more than likely NOT get to them....it gets filtered and put in the steam pile of shit email they get ;)

IMHO steam = STEAMING PILE OF SH*T. I miss just being able to install games and patches seperately then just go out and find a game server. I got Condition Zero with my new X800 Pro for free. I had never played using st33m before but had played a ton of CS back in the day. Loaded it up and st33m took it's damn time getting itself straight. After many attempts (st33m locked up 90% of the time after clicking on a server) I was able to get onto a server. Yeccch, wtf did they do to CS?? It looks and plays like a$$. Is there any way to get the ORIGINAL CS back?

I do not understand what everyone's problem with Steam is. I have installed it on at least 5 different machines and not had one issue with it.

Steam has been very handy to me. Hopefully Valve will continue to improve on it.
