Doesn't sound good...Do you have Win2k? If you have XP, you can always to a system restore. Or did you try the recovery console?

To Use System Restore:
Start
All Programs
Accessories
System Tools
System Restore
Restore my computer from an earlier time, hit next, a calandar will then come up. Choose the date that your computer was last working. Hit restore and then it will start the process...

in w2kp it is part of SP4.
Do a right click on SP1, Sp1a or Sp2 and extract - it might be part of one of those SPs.

Boot into the recovery console and run chkdsk. If that doesn't work, you can run the expand command from there.

It will allow you to boot off of a CD and goto a network share and extract that file on to the disk. I would also run chkdsk /f on that drive.

Chkdsk from the recovery console works wonders.
