After building my new system (see sig), I refurbed the old machine a bit, and gave it to my 13-year old, using a netgear router/wireless adapter to share the cable modem. What I want is a good, inexpensive filtering package to keep him away from the egregious porn and other nasties. I'm not worried too much about language (he's a teenager and he's heard it all by now), but I'd like to block him from accessing the hardcore stuff.

I tried the IE Content Adviser, but it's worse than useless. Even with relatively liberal settings, it wouldn't even let him visit Google, for God's sake.

What suggestions do you have?

Thanx!

CyberSitter, NetNanny. There's lots of free stuff because people are trying to protect kids. Charging would hinder the cause.

If you've got an extra machine (old), check out CensorNet (http://www.censornet.com). It's a pretty nice OS/router/filter/proxy that's free and does filtering.
