About to order a gig of memory but ballistix timings have changed so Im not so sure I should buy them so I thought I would ask on the forums
What other memory manufacturers offered 2-2-2-5 ram with the same chip?
Its for an amd 64 system so I could always go with ocz eb stuff but would prefer 2-2-2-5 just for bragging rites

If you want those tight timings just go for Corsair XL or Mushkin Lv2 Rev2, both hit 2-2-2-5 up to around 213mhz, the Mushi might go a bit futrther. Both o/c a tonne so either one.

My OCZ EL Plat Rev 2 can do 2-2-2-11 on 2.7V... Just got it yesterday as an early birthday present for myself, lol. Legal drinking age in Canada on Wednesday, yay!

I wonder why they changed. A while back, they had big bragging rights that they could run 2-2-2-5 at DDR400, and maintain huge overclockability. They run Micron chips.

Shame they changed now I have too find a different set of ram. Prefiably micron :)
Thinking of the OCZ 3700 Gold EL due to the nice reviews it got from Anand...just looking for other reviews of it

I have had good luck with the Ballistix. It has been rock solid at 2-2-2-5-1T, even with moderate overclocking. What MoBo/CPU are you running? Have you tried adjusting the voltage?

PQI turbo is TCCD too and does 2-2-2-5 1T

well.. thanks for hte heads up, I haven't noticed the rating change...
crucial just lost my business.. I am preparing to replace my memory in the near future, and crucial was one of my first choices.. the only other choice was using a high clock rating memory.

I just got some ballistix and it auto detects at 2-2-2-8, as most will....but they recommend 2-3-2-6....i have mine running at 215mhz 2-2-2-8 at 2.8v right now......

Went with the OCZ Platinum EL Dual Channel Kit 2x512MB PC3200 CL 2-2-2-5 Revision 2

Mainly the Anand article where they got it up to DDR 600 and performed well at most speeds
Im presuming Crucial lowered their spec cos they couldn't get enough chips at 2-2-2-5 (Ive heard lots of people waiting for their Ballistix). Makes sense to lower the timings if it means you can get alot more chips in (and most people wont notice)

You know how Crucial has a ridiculous 20% restocking fee on returns?
After my stick of Ballistix failed and brought down my XP SP1 with it (explaining my SP2 lol), they gave me a FULL REFUND. Including tax and NO restocking fee.
Just shows how bad this ram was. How many times does a company give a full refund? Think about it.
I woulnd't touch ballistix even with a 15ft. pole. They are as bad as the generic Samsung's I bought earlier this summer, except at least the Samsung's errored in memtest very early (the Microns deceptively were error free until 20+ hours of testing).

I wouldn't ever really rely on a anand artice.. they throw up ridiculous numbers because the company gives them the cream of hte crop to review. IF you could grab the sticks that were reviewed however.. :)))

So you would have been happier having a restock fee charged? Sometimes a product fails, no matter who made it. And companies are charging restock fees these days because some morons out there like to buy 5 of everything and pick the one that OCs the best, then send the rest back.

Possibly true for ram as overclocking is covered by the warrenty...ah well still not bad ram :p
Ill see what I can get upto when they come :)

No dude, I'm saying that I've ordered RAM before, and even if its bad, they never gave me a FULL REFUND.
I find it very strange that in this case, I received a full refund--this is b/c Crucial explicitly stated on their site that, "to prevent abuse of the return policy" they would charge 20% on restocking.
But that didn't happen in my case. I was already getting ready to take a $15 hit upon sending it back (cost me $140 so, 0.8 * 140 = 112 >> yeah, its actually a loss of $28 if they had applied it correctly).
That is what suprised me. Of course, the RAM totally failing after a week was also surprising, but a full refund never happens. What worries me is how MESSED UP the ram was that they would be so generous? Do you get what I'm saying?

And Summoner? I was not overclocking it a single bit.
I only ran it at the SPD advised settings, which were 2-2-2-8 with 2.8VDimm. I had memtested it previously for 8 hours, with no errors (now I realize I should have done more than an overnight memtest), but the fact is that I played 3 hours of Doom3 with this RAM as well. How did it fail over a matter of days, but still play Doom3? Doom3 stressed my overclocks (with my Corsair) enough to cause BSOD's if I didn't provide enough vDimm.
You will find that other people have a similar story on other forums. Everything working fine, when they were running 2-2-2-8, but suddenly dying after a lil over 2 weeks. Most of these cases, just like me, they were running 200FSB, no more no less. RAM failing over time is worse than RAM that gives errors initially b/c it can NOT be seen with foresight or inital testing!
I thought it wasn't possible, but here I am with my full refund, and me back to my reliable Corsair stick.

There's rumored G-Skill memory to be around. Look for that. Apparently, it's hitting ddr 600 easily, and can run ddr 400 at 2-2-2-5. It goes for about 280 for a dual channel 1g kit, not too bad for what it does.

most of the reviews ive read as of late, state that Crucial suggests the 2-3-2-6 timings, but they'll run 2-2-2-5 just fine.
