For those in the So Cal area, as of Aug 31 Time Warner is offering Road Runner Premium service which gets you 6 Mbps down and 512 up for $65 a month. It is not nearly as good as Verizon's fiber service in Huntington Beach which offers 10 mbps starting at $50 a month, but its better than nothing. TW is not advertising this yet however. You have to call their customer service # and order it. If the tech doesn't know about it ask them to check with their supervisor. I ordered mine today.

I wish I could get something like that, I'm stuck with 1.5/856 @ $40/month.

I'm fairly satisfied with Optimum Online Northern NJ's service. For some strange reason they advertise slower DL speeds on their brochure but in reality the speeds are insane. Huge microsoft updates are downloaded in a flash @ a real 1500 kbs or faster sometimes. Downloads off cnet or the other usual suspects range anywhere from 500kbs to 1200kbs. But i do hear some cable companies do this; advertise slower speeds but in reality offer higher bandwidth to the end-user. This makes me happy :D

Sorry about that dolphumous! Looks like pretty much the same offer, for the same reasons, but in a different area. I have always heard extremely crappy things about Verizon and their customer service but I sure do wish I lived in an area where they were rolling out fiber to the home. Either way though, I am still happy I will be getting the 6 down 512 up!

I'm loving the dorm's lan connection: typically get 1500 kbs downloading from big sites. :D

$65 for CA isn't bad - right? I've got 6Mb/512k DSL for $44 from SBC in TX. I hope things continue to get faster. Especially, uploads.

hmm
wireless, not impressed

sorry? :oa lot of my friends have cable and they say our wireless was faster and better whenever they come over.... right now its around 3.5/2... the highest cable package around here is like 3 down and practically no upload.. and the cheapest cable is probally 50 bucks a month.. you cant argue with something thats faster just as reliable and cheaper when you live out in the middle of corn fields... ;)
