I just noticed this at newegg and hadn't seen anything for it before anywhere...

Adaptec 16 port SATA RAID card...

Thats freakin amazing!!! With 250GB drives at RAID 5 its 3.75TB (minus the funny 2^30 vs 10^9 stuff), and with 400GB drives at RAID 5 its over 6TB. Six Terabytes.

And 64MB of cache to support it all.

Yea, but I'm looking at capacity a lot more than I'm looking at performance... its just my point of view I guess.

At $995.00 MSRP I'm wondering how many companies will really look at this over a traditional SCSI raid setup.

As near-line backup or an archive server it wouldn't be too bad, but you wouldn't catch me throwing a database or high-load SMB/NFS server on it. Of course if the budget is really tight, maybe, but nothing mission critical.

Adaptec's PATA RAID cards weren't all that hot perfomance-wise. Neither were their U160 RAID cards.
Anyone read anything on this card? I'd much rather stick with 3Ware in the time being.
