do you think a singal Raptor would be faster than 2x80gig Maxtors on a Tx2 controller in RAID0?

there u133 drives on a a u100 controller...my other Raid array is 4x maxtor 80gig drives (8mb) on a u133 RAID card.

Define "faster"

Read transfers?
Write transfers?
Sustained or burst?
Read service times?

And which Raptor? The WD740GD is quite a bit faster than the 360GD.

it spins faster, but i think your current setup is faster, since its raid 0. I could be wrong, but im pretty sure you either are faster for loading and crap then a single raptor, now 2 raptors in raid 0 thats a completely different story.

My money's on the Raptor... 'Specially if it's a 76 GB'er.

a single raptor is going to be faster in seek time

the raid array is going to be faster in sustained data transfer of large files

the raptor was built for gamers and building cheap 1U database servers where cost was a large factor.
the 74gb raptor is only about $50 cheaper than a similer 10k 74gb scsi drive from maxtor. the large difference in cost comes from the controller card
a good sata controller is ~$40 while a cheap adaptec scsi controller is $160+

Wile im still playing around with what i want to do, I reformated and installed XP on the raptor, and am running my apps, music and games off the RAID array. So far my my documents folder is still on the raptor (rather large, 11+gigs) Less chance of crashing so the stuff i can replace isnt on the RAID. (pictures most importaint) even thought i backup regulary, so its not abig deal.. it seems to be running well...I stuck the page file on the RAID array also...

It dose boot faster than the RAID drives did...i guss that a +, but only about 5 secoudns faster.
