strip the wire back about a half inch from a clean cut, then slide a piece of heatshrink tubing over one end past the stripped portion. solder the two sides together, slide the heatshrink back over the solder joint, heat and it should be set like new...possibly better.

I assume you made sure the polarity was correct and all. Some speakers have polarity protection in that if it's reversed, it won't work. Also, if you had previously taped the wires together, the glue leftover on the wires is probably what is causing it not to work. So, cut the wires about a half inch back, do the solder job and it should work.

I have a pair of Altec Lansing's that my cat did the same thing to. Taping the wires back together (yes...I took the lazy way out at first) cause them to stop functioning down the road. cutting the wire back, stripping, and soldering did the trick for me.

good luck!

I would like to add that you never ever ever splice the wires parallel to each other.
When the tape peels off (and it will) the wires short and fry the amp.

You stagger the splices so that cant happen...... like this--->

------------------------------/splice/---------------------
-----/splice/----------------------------------------------

Of course if the cat is chewwing on the wires when the speakers are on.....chances the amp is done anyhow. Stick a fork in it. :p

Ever see the cat silencer in Redneck Rampage 2? Try that. (I have no respect for cats, although I understand some people need them in order to remain sane).

i tried redoing the cut nothing works, the left spreaker i guess is dead, would it work f i cut the wire from another speaker and hook it up to the left one wire?

it sounds like the left speaker channel may have gotten fryed, most likely due to the wires touching. A bad short generally shouldnt fry the speaker itself.

have you taken the speaker apart and maybe see if there's a fuse in there?

Rakinos is right - make sure your left front channel on the amp isn't fried. Normally a short will fry the channel, not the speaker.

Switch the speakers around.... plug the cat chewed one in the right channel (make sure the wires are not shorted first) and the not cat chewed one in the left channel.

the left speaker and right speakers wire go to the same connector (know what i mean) if my right is working then does that mean my amp is fine or is there more to this

(i dotn have 5.1 surround its an older system, 4.1, does that make a difference in how i should check the amp)

If I were you guys the cats would be ditched immediately. future problems are guaranteed never to occur this way. ;)

Switching the speakers around verifies that there is either still a wire problem on that side or that the amp is indeed fried.
Does the same connector part = a minijack?
Cause if it does it complicates the whole thing..... unless you feel like cutting and splicing the wires on the other side. :D

yes, unfortunaly it is connect by a minijack

im with idiotincharge. i hate cats, and this is one of the reasons why.
anyhow,
sometimes the minijack connector can get messed up and will not make a good connection, which will not deliver a signal to the speakers. i think the back part of the minijack (closest to the plastic) is the right channel. i would doublecheck your soldering though, and make sure there are no shorts in it.

split loom, works wonders as a cat repellant, otherwise my cordless phone would no longer have any power, and i possibly wouldnt have a cat :D

While I would feel sorrow for the demise of the phone, to me it would be worth it for a spectacular end to a cat...
