They make the Clariion, Symmetrix, etc line of servers.

I may be taking them up on a position soon, was wondering 'what the word on the street' is regarding them.

So far lots of people have said they're great, etc, but i'm just looking for more opinions on what you thing the company, hardware, service, software, etc is like.

I've worked for them monitoring a data center as a high school coop. It was the best coop job you could have for a high school student. I then moved to software development after high school and it was also a great place to work. The people are almost all cool there and the environment (at least both of the ones I've been in) are fairly casual most of the time. I'm going to be moving to CQ next week which won't be as cool as where I have been, but it keeps me in a job so meh.

Buddy of mine worked for them in IT.

They went through a big phase of buying up competitors and technologies. They bought them up faster than things could be integrated into their schema and processes, so it ended up being a pretty big mess. Last I knew, not that much had been done to get things standardized, they were just plugging holes keeping things running, and then next they were laying off people left and right...

Of course, much of that description fits MANY tech companies over the last four years. Many companies look good if you work on the side that makes the $$, vs how it looks from the "cost center" of IT, where you are busy plugging holes with ever-diminishing resources.

So, dont take this view as a snapshot of the company as a whole, just good luck if you need anything from IT :)

They're doing a LOT to organize the company right now.

Yeah, they layed off a load of people around two years ago a I heard. Now they've got top hardware and grade A service apparently they've turned their attention to Software (bought Documentum, Legato and VMware all in under a year).

It's worked though, they command 30% of the storage software market, I think the closest competitor is veritas with 22%.

Anyway, should be fun with them

I just got a Clariion storage array this weekend. It looks
very nice, but I'm still configuring it - I haven't seen how
it actually performs yet. Late 90s model, rebadged by SGI.
