ok so today when i booted up my comp, it says RAID ERROR PRESS F4 now to enter raid configuration utility. I open up my comp, and look at the cable, its no longer attached to the hard drive. Not only that, the plastic conector on the hard drive melted onto the cable. its an SATA drive. Will getting a new cable fix this, or do i need to get my hard drive fixed? This is infact the drive with windows on it, and I can't even use my own computer now! will a new cable work, or does that plastic piece on the hdd around the sata connecter need to be there? please respond soon!

I believe SATA HDD's can get hot. It must've been under extreme load. Maybe it's a malfunctioning HDD or just simply a mistake that it was overloaded. Get a HDD cooler or some case fans to cool it by.

A. The Data Cable has extremely low voltage power running through it so that wasnt it
B. If the drive actually got hot enough to melt that cable, it has a borked bearing
C Recovery of any type is going to be very expensive
just RMA the drive

I can't RMA it its a seagate baracudda and is a year old, and its also OEM from www.abspc.com The problem is the part melted into the cable, and somehow there was a clean break off, cus no sharp spots, white plastic, but it sure as hell melted, it was hot, and is shaped differently. Are you guys sure I don't need that tiny little piece of plastic on my hard drive? cus if thats the truth, im gonna need to erase my other drive, buy a copy of windows (or get a warez copy, i have a windows key) god im pissed, im gonna go search my abspc binder for any hdd warranties...

check the warranty

and discussing warez is against forum rules
something you might want to pay careful attention to when replying to a moderator :p
your sure its the data cable and not the power cable?

I can take a picture of the problem, but it wont do much good.... my camera sucks at close range.... anyways heres a few pics with it in front of my emachine (mom's comp actually)
The plug with more metal on it is the power cable, and the smaller ne is the one thats broke. On the right one there is a plastic thing ontop of it, and on the left one, its obviously broken off.
