I have a Western Digital Caviar SE WD1200JD 120GB SATA in an Abit IC7 based system. I recently ran Sandra to benchmark the hard drive and I came up with
Sandra Drive Index is 18,858kB/s

The specs for the hard drive are
Buffer To Host (Serial ATA) 1,200 Mbits/s (Max) == 150 MB/s == 153,600 KB/s
Buffer To Disk 748 Mbits/s (Max) == 93.5 MB/s == 95,744 KB/s
The SATA controller is ICH5 - 150MB/s data transfer rate.
It appears to me that 18.4 MB/s falls way short of what my system is capable of.
