what sound card and speakers do you recommend?

True. That being said....

I have a Terratec DMX 6fire. If you are into music, Terratec is a place to look. If you are into gaming, take a look at Creative's top models.

Speakers are a loaded question...

If you are heavily into music, and demand top quality, take a look at the concept of adding an amp to your system with a pair of nice audiophlie grade monitors. If not, get some computer speakers. A lot of guys around here like Kilpsch. They are about the nicest computer speakers around.

if you don't want to pay $14,000+, get some nice Klipsch PM 5.1 Ultra's
