So now its time for a brand new casebuild This time with a Hellraiser theme. This case will be my servercase and will contain an old P4 1,7 The case vill be an engraved plexicube. The idea is to make an all black and gold cube, to do this i will dremel all the patters and then fill them with leafgold and top it off with sunblock film on the inside.
The cube will remain black and gold until the lights switch on. Then the internals will be visible. The mainboard will be mounted with all connecters facing down this will be done so that i can hide all the cables in the wodden base. The cdrom and diskdrive will also be stealthed into the base so that the plexicube itself will remain untouched.
I didnt want to cut any holes in the cube since i feel that it would mess up the clean look im going for the only holes will be for 2x80mm casefans one in the front and one at the back. Ive made some sketchup drawings to show yall what i had in mind
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/hellpc/hell1.jpg
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/hellpc/hell2.jpg
So now on to the actual build, first some plexi
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/cube1.jpg
Then some sketching, this will take forever to do with the old dremel but ill get there
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/cube2.jpg
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/cube3.jpg
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/cube4.jpg
Ive been working hard theese last couple of days and what ive been up to you can see here
Ive finished 2 sides of the cube, not completely but ive got all the basic etching done and heres how i looks.
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/cube5.jpg
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/cube6.jpg
And the work continues....
Been working on the base and the internal stuff so heres some pictures
The harddrive needed some paint
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/cube16.jpg
And the discdrive aswell
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/cube17.jpg
Ive finished the rear fanholes
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/cube18.jpg
And the front has been given a hole and a tinted plexiplate for the lcd display that will be scrolling alot of evil messages
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/cube19.jpg
Im getting there slowly :) My new mainboard arrived today a Asus P4s800-mx and a 120mm aluminium fan for the cpu. Next friday i will get the last parts needed to complete this case! weeeee Finally! The base is almost completely done now ive installed the 4x20 lcd and 2x80mm rear fans. heres some pictures of how it looks tday
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/cube20.jpg
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/cube21.jpg
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/cube22.jpg
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/cube23.jpg
i had to scrap the idea with leafgold becuse i couldnt get the effect i wanted so ill just go with black and white wich turned out to look just fine
if all goes as planned this case will be completed in two weeks (i hope)

That looks really nice, never really seen anything like that before. Nice job on the etch, it really doesnt look like you did it with a dremel (compliment)... I wouldve given up due to cramps and tediousness along time ago =).
Also, maybe paint the base white? I think that would make it all blend better... gloss black is good too.

im going for the aged black style on the base and there will be etched patterns on the base to when its done.

I would love to know how exactly you etched that using the Dremel. Stuff like the bit used, how you drew on the plexi, etc. Looks awesome so far.

I do all my etchings with just a plain old dremel and i always use this kind of bits to do it with.
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/linjestift.jpg
and all my etchings are done on the inside of the case.

Ive got some pretty outrageous plans wich will be realized in the next few days. Ive got a lifesize male head from a manequin that will be airbrushed and fitted with Nails and blood :D The head will be hollowed out and fitted over the harddrive. So when the lights come on youll se pinhead himself starring at you from within the case :D Red leds will be used to make his eyes glow. The head is currently beeing shipped to me and work will start on friday.
So expect a pretty wierd update in the following week

Today i decided that my celeron 1,7 needed some cooling :D so i went totally nuts and went for the ultraoverkill deluxe cooler :D My first thougt when i saw the cooler mounted was...Hmmm i might have to add som ledweights for the cube so that it wont take off :D

Then some lines
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/pinhead3.jpg
And finally a testfit of the things that make Pinhead a Pinhead :D

Theres still tons of sanding, painting, cutting and shaping before ive got a goodlooking replica. But ill get there :) More updates will come soon :D

Time for a testfit of pinhead inside the case. In normal mod the cube is completely black and you cant see him, but with a little red light he becomes visible
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/pinhead5.jpg
The effekt when the room is totally dark is amazing, it turned out far beyond anything id hoped for. One evil lookin dude inside my case dont ya think :D
http://wpa.portalofevil.org/cube/pinhead6.jpg
As many has pointed out to me i went a bit berserk with the nails on the first test but that has been fixed i removed the nails around the eyes, mouth and ears so it looks as it should
Theres more to come....

You have a good idea and a good looks so far, but you have 1 MAJOR issue that you have not thought completely through. COOLING. You think 2 little 80mm fans at the bottom of your case in a enclosed enviroment will keep your CPU, VGA, and RAM Chips cool enough? I know for experience the answer is NO. Here is MY HELLRAISER MOD.
http://www.modthemachine.com/images/mod.jpg
I had and still has a 120mm fan under the Motherboard and 2 internal fans to create a flow within the cube and a 80mm fan in the back left corner. This was NOT EVEN CLOSE to enough to keep the system cool, so I was left with 2 choices, scrape the whole thing, or go liquid cooled. Well the blue unit in the picture above in the Zalman Resterator 1 silent Water Cooling system, and it fixed the problem...
Here are a few more pics of MY HELLRAISER MOD

Im not worried at all about heat since im running a celeron 1,7 with one single drive and the graphics are basic built in on the mainboard ive run the comp 6days in a row with no heatproblems what so ever and thats with no chassifans at all just the cpufan. This compter will just be a Router/firewall/sever and will never be under any heavy workloads no games will ever be played on it. Im using a simple AsusP4s800 mainboard. So adding watercooling would be totally pointless since it doesnt even require the chassifans to be running to work just fine.

If you have tested it out and are comfortable with it, then by all means go for it... I would not feel safe with an enclosed enviroment with little to no ventilation or cool system. By the way, in your first post you said you were using a P4 1.7 now it is a Celeron 1.7, which is it, the heat generation is different. and do not forget that the HD, CD drive, and the PSU all produce heat too...
I would heat temp the CPU, it can run in a critical state and not fail for a while, I would check it, just to make sure...
I am not trying to flame you here, just give advice based on my personal and professional experience.
By the way, how are you holding the sides and top together? I saw some duct tape, but I am guessing that will be going bye bye in the final...
Btw, you have a very nice MOD there, I look forward to seeing the final...

I have tested the cpu under full load for 30hours and it maxed out at 55 degrees celsius so i dont think tha there vill be a problem. And its a celeron 1,7 not p4. The sides will be held together with a steel frame 5x5mm that the plexisides will be superglued to. The bottom will be separet and to open it you just lift the hood of. I went with that sollution because it gave me the cleanest possible cube.

Wolverine, have you considered using some sort of amber LEDs or something instead of red to get the tones of the engravings more close to the movie version? I think that would look really cool, and everyone does red, so I thought I'd suggest it. Not even sure if it's possible...I'm sure you'd know. ;)
BTW after seeing this and the Blacklight Demons/Celtic Blacklights case I am quite thoroughly impressed at how good you are with that Dremel. You've actually given me a use for my new cordless Dremel a buddy of mine gave me. :D Vive la inspiration! Good show man.
PS: MODman, pay attention to the post regarding "bad form", he hit the nail right on the head. Just a friendly thought.

Mod man, that was the most regretable post you've ever done. To capitalize your words and to show your mod in a magazine winning the mod of the month award? Do you think anyone cares? Is the magazine even related to the mod he is presenting? You can provide your advices but it was poorly implemented. Your mod doesn't even look impressive. Just some chainlink holding the motherboard up. Wow.
Either way, I look forward to your final product of the mod, Wolf. :)

just to point out there not actually holding the mobo up theres little hooks on the end to represent the hooks from the movie , altho i do concur that it was a totally unnessascary plug of his own case :/

The light in this case hasent really been decided yet (the thing you see is an old bicycle taillight :D )but it wont be ccdtubes because i dont want to light up the entire inside, just the head so ill be using Lazerleds or Lazerbeam so that i can focus the light where i want it.
Oh and btw ive hocked up all the internal stuff now and placed the motherboard and drives where they should be so all i need to do now is get that frame built and place pinhead in his final resting place :) Pictures will come soon

I did a calculations and 55 degrees C = 131 degrees F and that IS in the critical temp range for that CPU. Intel states that the Max safe temp is 45 degrees C.
Be careful with the superglue, it can warp the plastic...

Like i said before this setup will never even be close to working at full load so theres absolutely no problem the normal cpu temp i 32 degrees celsius. btw ive used industrial strenght superglue and it worked fine. I used it to glue the mainboardplate to the bottom of the case.

1. Shoose your picture visely. To complicated images can look crappy if there not 100%
2.Put alot of work in when you do the sketch on the plexi, dont jut put the picture underneath and go berserk. Take your time and trace the image onto the plexi with a permanent marker its alot easier to make a good etch if you got clear lines to go after.
3. Use the right bits and if possible a flexible etchingpen for the dremel
4. Take your time, dont be in a hurry
5. Drink lots of coffe and smoke a pack of cigarretes during etchin :D (can be Coca Cola and snacks if youre healthier than me :D )

For anyone else that feels the need to bash on Mod Man for his post, pay attention to the details. That was his first post ever here (That's why I welcomed him to the forums). It's also obvious that he really likes Hellraiser cubes. However misguided his post was, have a little patience for the FNG :D

Wolverine. Have you thought about having some two stage lighting? one for the internal lights like you have planned and one for the etches in the plexi. If you could figure out a way to hide some LED's in the sheets, it would look sweet to have those lines glowing, maybe even pulsing a red or white light.

Now, I must say, I like that idea. Sadly, I haven't seen Hellraiser, but the cube is looking pretty badass. I think the pulsing idea of Gargoyle Hunter's is pretty sweet...a slow pulse would give it almost a heartbeat. Just my two cents.

The sides of the cube would be childsplay to light up but the top would be a royal pain in the **s. The frame is only 5x5mm and hiding leds and wiring there would be impossible the frame isnt even hollow :/ Maybe if the plexi would have been thicker it would be possible to drill in from the sides but its only 5mm. But the idea with pulsating lights is something i definetly will look into :)

I am partial to Wolverines mod, but other than pluging his own, mod man has been nothing but curtious. Even after people called him out on it.
Edit your post Mod Man and I suspect all will be well.
Both are great mods and helping each other out is what the modding community is about, when it starts to become a competition, it will get out of hand and lose its appeal, like Basketball.

Today i did a first test with all the hardware in place. I also scrapped the whole metalframe idea and insted i put the cube together with chemical steel, that stuff is truly amazing. I got a much better look with the chemical steel because i could get rounded edges wery easy. It was really easy to apply and the cube is solid as a rock :) Heres some pictures of the cube in action for the first time as a working system.

The Sides, front, back and top are like a hood that just sits over the hardware i was planning on using screws to hold it in place but since it goes down into the base about 5mm it aint goin nowhere. So it doesnt really need to be fastened because i aint planning on turning it upside down :)

weee got some work done on the keyboard :) This is my very first adventure in to the land of texturing and drybrushing and its all thanks to that Crimson video :)
I took an old ibm keyboard and sanded of that ugly logo then i used some of the chemichal metal stuff i had left to make some texture ,coated it in matt black and drybrushed a mix of Red and black on to it. I will add more colors once the red has dried but i just had to show some Progress shots.

That Zalman Reserator is the dumbest product I've ever seen.while I agree that modman was showing bad form in posting his mod in this thread... what makes the Reserator so bad? Seems like an interesting solution to getting the fans out of a water cooled computer.

I just want to say that it does look awesome and the etch work on the plexi is truely a feat. Awesome work.
Really i only have one thing to really comment on and it more about intergration of the cmputer and the design. When i made mine My Puzzle box (http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1026581440&postcount=197) I tried to work the box into a computer rather than building a box and sticking a computer inside. I tried to make the movments from the movies work with the inside of the computer it's self rather than just hiding everything. like i said it really is an amazing piece of art and i love the pin head idea but i would have liked to see someone else try and intergrate the box more than just cosmetically alter it.

If I hear the phrase "sticking a computer inside" one more time I'm gonna scream. Wolverine's sculpture is not an incidental work of art with PC parts thrown inside..I'm lead to believe from the awesome result that he had planned the integration from the beginning...Yours doesnt exactly transform and interconnect like the one in the movie:D

I really have no idea what yopu mean when you say "i would have liked to see someone else try and intergrate the box more than just cosmetically alter it" I didnt want a box turned in to a computer to start with. My project is done with one thing in mind and that is to get a clean box without cutting holes in it and thus destroying the clean cube concept.
As you can see there are no holes, fans or anything to distort the clean look on my cube and that was the aim to begin with.
Ive seen alot of cubes that in my opinion has been done with to much computer sticking out everywhere there are no cddrives fanholes or buttons sticking out of the original cube. So the first thing i did was to figure out how i could get the hardware working without having to do any cutting or drilling.
Ive gone for all looks on this project and i totally disregarded any userfriendlyness. Both Cdrom and diskdrive are mounted inside and the only way to access them is by removing the hood. This will stand on a plattform in my livingroom and act as a server/firewall/router and all the functions i need are done with a remote. The Keyboard,Mouse and monitor is going to be hellraiserized just for the plain fun of modding :)

ok ok look all i was saying is if it were going to be a desktop PC it seemed a bit more flash than function. I admit that this is a true work of art. I didn't mean it as a flame in the slightest.
And no mine doesn't change and transform and all that.... Yet.
anyway Look plain and simple I apologize it is a truely amazing box and i surly give you credit for the etching thats amazing. So again sorry it was a bad morning. No hard feelings i hope. your box is bad a$$ and I love the pin head. :D
Now that i know what your idea was i have to say you pulled it off better than most could. I chose to interrate the computer into the design and i thought it turned out pretty cool. you went the other way and did a damn fine job of it too.

Theres absolutely no hard feelings, and i liked your work to. we just had different plans to begin with. And youre right that as a desktop pc mine would have been an absolute HORROR :D to put up with since its as userfriendly as a pair of concrete sunglasses :D

I think it became kinda Hellraiserish. My camera has trouble with capturing the "1000years old dried up human flesh" that the keyboard actually has :) Im very happy with the result and will continue with mouse, monitor and the base. More updates will come as soon as ive got something to show yall :)

BRAVO!!!...that is excellent..the texture came out really nice...Time To Play---muhahaha
{edited due to harshness toward would be threadjackers}
This is an incredibly well executed mod. Every detail is truly amazing.
If you want to illuminate the top plate of the box, you could adhere a thicker plate to the bottom of it with embedded leds. That would definitely save you the hassle of redoing the etching.
I love the mod thus far!!

I used a two component bondo to get the texture and some drybrushing. The face on the side of the monitor is a halloween mask that has been superglued and to the side and painted.

There are plenty of ventilationholes there but as you said the pics are abit unclear. Ive drilled about 300 holes in the monitorhousing so i should be in the clear. Ill check from time to time and if its getting to hot ill just drill some more :)
