how to host files off my own computer?

I have a computer at home that i use as an ftp server but i wanna also be able to use it to host pics and stuff, what would i need or how would i need to do that?
 
Web server would do the trick (and is probably more secure than FTP if you're not planning on uploading files).

Apache is the general recommendation. There's a big Apache config thread in Web & Prog currently.
 
FTP hosting is certainly viable. There are several free FTP servers in the Freeware Index. Webservers just don't require that you worry about someone gaining upload permissions.
 
ok i see. I was thinking of doing this with Bullet Proof FTP Server
