Hard Drive not being recognized?

I just recently built a new computer (MSI K8N Neo ATX Motherboard with Athlon 64 Processors) and installed two hard drives. One is 36Gb and the other is 80Gb. When my computer first boots it detects them both but when I go into "My Computer" the second(80Gb) hard drive is not there. I've gone into the "My Computer's" Properties and looked under Device Manager and it shows that the 80Gb hard drive is there and that it is enabled but it still does not show up under "My Computer". I have also uninstalled the hard drive and the computer recognized ("new hardware found") the new hardware when i reloaded but does not show it. I have tried to un/replug the SATA drives connecting to the motherboard and downloaded SATA files from the MSI website to try and get the computer to fully recognize it but this also hasent worked.

If anyone can help me i would really appreciate it.

I came here because I have the same problem. I just bought a new 200 GB Maxtor SATA drive and windows is recognizing it, but its not showing up in the disk list. I'm a sad panda.

wrong area

right click on my computer select manage
when the computer management window is up, move pointer to disk management in the lower left pane.
in the right pane look for the new drive and create and manage the partitions from there.
what partition(s) is/are created will show now in explorer, etc.

What method did you guys use to format the drive that you cannot see?

I can't even get to a point where I can format the drive, since I can't see it in Windows XP to format it.

Grandfather of the Desert (shaihulud) got it right, you need to go into Disk Management under Manage my Computer to format it.. This ain't windows 98 no more.
