There will no doubt be a flurry of Doom3 themes this year and next, so I thought I'd add my project to the mix. Project Mars City (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com) will be fun to build with lots of kitbashing for that military/industrial Doom3 look. Expect lots of armor, mesh, lighted machinery, pressure doors, plumbing, and maybe a few sculpted animatronic beasties. You can also see this worklog (with commentary) on my own website The Best Case Scenario.com (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum)
Since Mashie and I are both working on Doom3 inspired cases, we set up a Live ModCam so anyone interested can see the projects as they progress. Live ModCam (http://www.modcam.net)
I have an AlphaCool Cape Red watercooling kit that might be included in the project---I 'll open the box and take a look. DangerDen may also be used instead--will have to decide shortly. I have an Antec Super Lanboy that i might use as a base, since it's very lightweight, and the kitbashing will add enough to it.
http://thebestcasescenario.com/projects/doom3/bg_antec05.jpg
I'm making a base unit for that Antec case, with Mars terrain--i.e rocks and craters--it will also house the optical drive. I need to free up the 5.25 drive bays for the video monitor that will be integrated--probably a Xenarc or equivalent.

Here is the start of the base that will have a Martian terrain look. It will also house the optical drive and a few other goodies :D
I found a motorized 7" LCD screen meant for in-dash applications. The LCD is a Panasonic OEM, so it should be pretty good. Anyone know of other brands I should look into?.

After speaking with a friend today who was kind enough to spend some time and give great ideas, i took some screenshots for inspiration. Mr. Nervous lead me in the direction of a 3/8" hose watercooling setup, so I will go with DangerDen blocks and pump for the system. There will be lots of elements from the game as far as look and feel, plus some imagination thrown in. There are so many directions a mod like this can take, but after speaking with D he thought the case itself would be cool if represented as one of the building installations on Mars, with a few water cooling parts outside the case and then slithering their way inside.
The Antec case at this point is just a shell, having popped most of the rivets and drive cages offm and will hardly be recognized once completed.
Any ideas are welcomed, this should be lots of fun to join in on! :D

The Antec Super Lanboy is pretty flimsy---think soda can. What I did here is took the panel from the motherboard side and swaped it. I then cut a third off from the panel and mounted an aluminum bar on each side--it gave it lots of rigidity. Then I installed two utility hinges. The smaller section will be permanently mounted while the other side opens for accesability. Now I can mount parts to the smaller section (like the res for instance) permanently. This was Dick's idea--and a good one.
The hinges will be hidden eventually with kitbashed and scratch-built model parts.

Here is a shot of the half cone shaped section i completed last recently.

This section with aluminum rails will have a slide out tray with a MediKit box for cookies and snacks ?

Martian landscape material. I'll use this sheet as a mold for making resin sections on the base.

I got a few various sized rubber rock molds for Martian terrain. These are used to create boulders and rocks for model train landscapes, but in this case will be for Martian terrain :D
I mixed up some bondo and spread it on the mold with a stick like you would frosting. about 90 seconds later I pulled them from the mold:

Well after working about 10 hours I just about finished the base. This will be covered in Martian terrain, with a little of it on the case itself to blend in.

Started teraforming operations today. Once the entire base is covered I will add soil-like material and smallish rocks. The magic will be in the airbrushing and hand-painting.

Before I can cover the rest of the base with Mars terrain, I have to get the bottom part of the case finished, so I can blend it in. The case itself will become a structure modeled after the buildings in the game.
http://thebestcasescenario.com/projects/doom3/shot00069.jpg
http://thebestcasescenario.com/projects/doom3/shot00070.jpg
Here I started to create the scribed panels that will cover the case. On top of this will be various parts from model kits. Lots of pipes and small details as well. I penciled out some lines on the plastic panels, and using a scribing tool I cut the grooves you see here:

the many hours of kitbashing has started--I scrounged some parts from various model kits, but it looks like I'll have to go buy some more at the hobby shop.

Created a window on the building that will give a peek (albeit dusty) view into the interior of the case. The window will be slightly angled off the face of the building, like a bay window. I also added rivets to the scribed panels for even greater detail.

The sound board arrived today--yay! It has a LOT of features Some of them are:
*9-15v power input
*8ohm speaker ready with amplifier. Can also be plugged into PC sound card via mini plug.
*RS-232 Interface for controling 9 channels of sounds via simple ASCII commands from your PC
* 6 channels of audio that can be recorded (4 minutes total) individually, and played simultaneously or one at a time. You can use momentary switches, IR triggers, just about any switch. Sound is recorded on-the-fly from any output source using a 1/8" min plug. There is no soldering at all required with this board.
Will have lots of Doom3 sounds recorded into it for various features on the case, like doors opening. Also plenty of beastly monster sounds and voices.

Mashie had a great idea for my airlock door, and kicked it up a notch with a challenge to make it servo operated. When the system powers up, the airlock opens just like in the game (complete with sound effects) to reveal the radiator and allow air inside the case :D
In this pic you see the housing I completed for the door. Next step is to make both doors and rig the mechanics, and of course model the details.
The housing will actually be partway inside the case, just propped up there for the picture.

Did you tear out all the HD bays to mount the WC gear? Otherwise with that new door it'd be a pain ;)

yeah that crappy case is pretty much gutted--removed all the cages. The material is thin, but with all the styrene plastic and resin I'm adding, I'm better off without a heavy alum case to start with.

I'm always impressed with your work Crimson.
I understand how all the little details are coming from model kits, but where did you get the main side panels from? The ones you scribed and then added rivets to.
PLEASE go into great detail about the airlock door mechanism. I have struggled with motors in a couple mods and just haven't figured out how to make them work.

The detail on the airlock is completed--after a couple hours straining the eyes. A rough coat of primer helps me see the detail as I progress. All these details were cut with an X-acto knife from styrene plastic sheet (same material as all the panels on the mod ) and glued on with super glue. The control panel touch screen on the airlock will be a decal that I make in photoshop. The fun part of this project will be painting--I have over 20 different colors of paint that will be airbrushed and handpainted on the mod. :D

i think it'd be kewl if u put something inside the door that when it opens triggers a valve to let a small amount of smoke sifter out and if u get a real cd screen small enough to show the speed at whch the fan inside is spinning that would be kewl too and put a nob on it hidden so u can controll how fast the fan blows and it would circulate the smoke out of the airlock chamber....

What better way to test out the 30 jars of Model Master paint I purchased yesterday than to do a little finishing on the airlock--A combination of airbrushing and hand painting. Once I settle on a color for the Martian dust I'll be blending in that color onto the structures. The panel monitor is a printout with a glaze of clear 5-minute epoxy. I purchased a "Do-it-yourself inkjet" decal making system for the lettering on the opposite door, should arrive next week. What it does is create on your printer clear and very thin decals, the same that comes with model cars and other kits. Hopefully it will be a quality product--keep you posted.

Good God man that is beautiful. It's works of art like this that inspire many more new people to get involved with the modding scene.....as this project is a cut above the rest. This my friends is where case modding starts to cross the line between modding and art.....and I'm not joking. There's case modding that you and I all know.....and then there's THIS....definitely good to see more people with the time and patience to show us what creation modding is all about.
I'll DEFINITELY be following this one, as it actually pushes me forward to get going on my smaller mods I've got planned for my Lian-Li, thx.

No but seriously great idea for a d3 themed mod. I really really love the idea of having the case be the uac base. really fantastic theme. Ne who your attention to detail is fantastic. The airlock/window/base construction that i have seen already really is turning out great. It might be alittle early but might i suggest a swinging light source inside the rig (like in the game) or just a flickering light source.... Ne way long story short. you should definatly keep up the good work and come up with some thing dark and scary for the lighting.
P.S. I also have this vision in my head of a nice highly detailed mars base on the outside and a blood soaked nightmare on the inside.
Ill be wasting many hours at work reading your worklog so keep it up.

That is an awesome door. I am very impressed (and I am a long time CrimsonSky fan, since his first Matrix based case). The only thing that I did'nt like was the control panel, probably just the glare off the glaze that makes it look weird, I'm sure it looks killer in person. I probaby would have printed the panel on a overhead transparancy and lit it with an LED (but that is just me).
What would I like to see in a Doom 3 themed case? The interior lit entirely by a flickering red light, with maybe a black mini mag-lite chained to the outside for proper illumination (Doom 3 is all about the flashlight after all). And incorporating those glowy satanic symbols that imps teleport in on would rock too, I would put them on fangrills or something, but seeing how this case is mainly watercooled that probably would'nt be the best place for them. Only suggestions though, I'm sure whatever CrimsonSky (and Mashie also, can't forget to praise the other great mod), do can only turn out to be awesome.

Suggestions for interior lighting would be appreciated!...I was thinking some sort of bright strobe (adjustable of course) that can be controlled somehow...dumb or dumber? I'm affraid there wont be all that much room inside the case...so think small scale. I have the idea of FloodLights on the outside of the building pointing towards the Martian surface.
--multiple lighting is a must I'd say--reds, flashes etc. to go along with all the sounds it will have. Maybe I'll look into some sort of lighting control board--there must be something at the animatronics shop I go to. (www.bpesolutions.com)

Exactly, like I said, there are two VERY distinct sides to case modding. The prevalent of the two is "traditional" case modding, in which mods are typically functional or asthetic.....but based around actually moddifying (changing) the existing case. The second side/form of case modding is not nearly as popular, but it is what we're seeing today, and as you can see, it isn't even really the same thing. Some of the nicest cases I've ever seen ARE traditional case mods, and I appreciate them because they're more along the lines of what your "everyday joe" is going to be capable of. Seeing these artistic creations is always very nice, but they have to be taken and seen in a slightly different light.
That being said, this is one of the finest artistic case mods I've ever seen, and I can hardly wait to see how she turns out.

one question im sure its nothing but how is the fan in front going to get air flow? are you going to open the door thingy when its on?
Ahem....
Mashie had a great idea for my airlock door, and kicked it up a notch with a challenge to make it servo operated. When the system powers up, the airlock opens just like in the game (complete with sound effects) to reveal the radiator and allow air inside the case
I won't demean you further :D

I woudl assume so, and then the airlock can simply be closed up when the comp is sut down.
Dude, I just thought of something.....would you be able to rig it up so that the door opens WHEN the comp starts up.....and closes when it shuts down? THAT would be killer!!! :D

If someone has the time and money to do something like this then I saw all the power too 'em. I see people spending just as much, if not FAR more time tuning up and "fiddling" with cars and things as a hobby, so for how fast Crimson has been progressing with this project I'm actually very impressed, it wouldnt actually be eating up THAT much time when you think about it.

interior lighting suggestions?
well so far your exterior is all technological, nothing from hell... sooooo i'd suggest infernal-themed lighting.
it'd be neat if you could reproduce one of the pentagram-like symbols that appear every so often in the game to spawn some demons... cut out the lines, and put an orangish light behind it, and between the light source and the "stenciled-out" pentagram, a rotating filter of sorts, so that the orange glow coming through the cutout pentagram is not constant, but has a marble feel... i dunno how else to describe it.
maybe there's another way to get this effect, but this is the oldskool method.

If you do interior lighting are you going to do like flashing lights and such? Like how it actually is in doom, where some lights work, but other don't. Anyway, YOU ARE ONE GREAT CASE MODDER! I think that pwns the crap out of any doom3 case i've seen. Keep up the good work, and keep the money flowin'! ;)
cornelious0_0
08-19-2004, 04:12 PM
As far as any of that, all I can really recommend is that you go with some kind of hellish/bloody "setup" for the interior.....just like the insides of the base/city itself on mars in the game. It woudl be very fitting, but the little touches and things of that nature seem/sound like they might end up being far more articulate on the INside. Should be nice.

This is something else... as to the lighting you should have two states: one dark with uv lighting only, and one that lights everything up so you can see everything in detail. I'd suggest using uv paint if you good at airbrushing because you could have eire glowing symbols, and replace all your fan grills with colored acrylic, so when your fans glow they make the acrylic stand out (that may not make sense unless you've seen it before). I did have a funny idea where to put a mini demon put a false ceiling in the top of the case to hide the wires and have it be able to open like the walls the monsters break though, it may only scare the crap out of people once but that's probly worth the effort :D

I was just thinking along the same lines as you drakken. The case could probobly still have some infernal red type lighting and some UV going at the same time. The paint would still flouresce, but I don't know about the color. Can you get a decent red flouescent paint that glows but doesn't look too garish for the purpose?

What it does is create on your printer clear and very thin decals, the same that comes with model cars and other kits. Hopefully it will be a quality product--keep you posted.

This is what I was vibing too. Remember that room towards the beginning where you walk in and a guy is stretched out on the ceiling, he screams, two monsters pop out and attack you? I think having a guy tagged to the roof of the case would be great.
Maybe on the bottom of the case you can use the pentagram symbols that have been suggested but you can take it slightly further by adding candles. In a couple rooms (in Doom 3) you walk in and there are candles being used and you could replicate this in the case by using those model train lights (I think they're for mini X-mas trees or something).
I saw what I think is called a hip gear unit for the PS2 for $40 a couple days ago at an EB Games. It's a controller/LCD thing. In any event, that's a nice small screen. There are a ton of uses for that thing but you could loop video clips on it. Example, you walk next to hanging monitor (in the game) and it tells you all about Mars City or some piece of technology... whatever. It'd be a little big scale-wise if you compare it to the size of the your airlock but I think it'd work. You'd need a video card that has video out though.
Hope my suggestions help. Good luck!

Like a phantasmagoria?
*** Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) ***
Phantasmagoria \Phan*tas`ma*go"ri*a\, n. [NL., from Gr. ? a
phantasm + ? an assembly, fr. ? to gather: cf. F.
phantasmagorie.]
1. An optical effect produced by a magic lantern. The figures
are painted in transparent colors, and all the rest of the
glass is opaque black. The screen is between the
spectators and the instrument, and the figures are often
made to appear as in motion, or to merge into one another.

And suggestion for the interior... I like the idea of what looks like a crappy flashlight. But have it panning around. Then have a model monster in the corner with glowing eyes that it pans to.. at that moment have the monster sound play and the screaming sound whenever you get the berzerk from the game play at the same time. Only while in demo mode mind you.

Some great ideas flowing in this thread. I really like the UAC sentry bot idea. Also, I was thinking the blood streaks idea too. I am also wondering if maybe you could incorporate a full array of indevidual lighting effects. Have it to where you can select different schemes. 1 could be all red like in the game when everything suddenly goes red, another could be the flashlight thing, yet another scheme could be regular lighting. Maybe you could find some shorter CCFLs and make a hanging celing light like you see around Marine HQ.
Also, another thought...
I bet it won't be long until Doom3 action figures start showing up, that could make some neat decorations to your case. Also, if you've ever seen the Lionol (sp?) train sets that puff smoke, maybe you could do a broken steam line with something like that.
Man, I wish I had the resources and time to start a serious modding project.

Yeah the steam idea was one of the first I came up with for the project--there will be a nice big fat broken pipe with smoke coming out. I just got the smoke unit a couple of days ago, works great!
For the top of the case, I chose to make the same rounded "crown" type moulding you see on the exterior buildings in the game. First I had to frame out the shape by cutting the joists from plastic on the scrollsaw. Next step is to put the "skin" on the joists to create that moulding's shape around the case. I'm thinking of putting another feature on top, maybe the "Communications" tower, with small windows all around it, perhaps an oscilating dish---who knows. What i really want to do is use this space to put a small animatronic creature that busts out of the building: head going side to side and arms reaching out and grabbing...just the head, shoulders and arms--haunted house style :D

I mean its the only thing missing...
No but seriously cant wait to see it...and HEAR it... i really back up the idea of making a video with sound and everything..it would be a crime to deny us the experience...
Suggestion : regarding the window on the side, it migth be cool, and power - saving to add blinds, or shutters like the ones in the kittchen early in the game, before you even get your first mission, that you could open and shut...but instead of turning the ligths off when they are opened and on when they are closed, like in the game, you shut the ligths off when the window is closed (since the cant be seen anyway) and your turn them on when the window is opened...that way you might save a little power...

well you have always been a tough one to please Mr. Fancy Pants. :D BTW this styrene plastic isnt the healthiest material, so be cautious when using it. When it heats up and smokes (while using a Dremel for instance) the fumes are fairly noxious--the dust isnt any better either. Very nice work. This is the first thing that's drawn me into the forum sin a LONG time :).
A thought on doing the glowing pentagram. . .I don't think UV paint would work, it's too . . . wrong (for lack of a better term. I would be more inclined to use thin acrylic or plexi painted orange and red, etc. then backlit with bright LED's. I can't think of anything UV reactive that would look right, but judging by your painting skills on the airlock door, you could probably paint something effective on something thin and transparent (with other areas masked out in black, etc.) then backlit that would convey the right "fire" feeling.
Another thought . . . might be tough to do, but worth considering. . . a bright red LED utilizing some fiber optic cable (shielding the LED so it doesn't illuminate the whole case). Mount this in the top, and it could be used to simulate the red lightning (as in the arrival of a new demon).

dont know if this would be prohibitivy expense but maybe a small touch screen that you chould enter codes into and display other information you chould even wire the on/off to the touch screen instead of a button and when you enter a 4 digit code the airlock opens up and then the computer powers on

Totally awesome work man! Keep it up!
A small 3inch - 4inch display would be pretty cool. You could have it look like one of the ammo crates where you punch in the key code...or like a monitor on one of the computers in the game (display wise).
Can't wait to see more pics.
Total. pwnage.

Oh and another thing, if you ever consider making some flesh/gore into this mod...use liquid latex. You can paint layers and layers until it's dry, peel it off, use small rusty hooks to 'pull' the skin and then paint it. Just a thought. :)

When it heats up and smokes (while using a Dremel for instance) the fumes are fairly noxious--the dust isnt any better either.
The easiest and safest way to cut styrene is to score the plastic with a sharp hobby knife then bend the sheet at the score. It will snap just like glass. For thick stock or real complex curves, scissors and tin-snips work good. I think they even sell a pair of tin snips that looks like Lexan Scissors.

Yeah, thats the best way for simple cuts and shapes--however mastery of the material requires sanding, grinding and heating, which is the cause of dangerous dust/fumes. 25 years of using it and I'm not dead yet--but who knows the long term effects--I may wind up with sumthing if I'm not careful.

Ok I discussed the project with my pal Mashie and there were some good ideas for animatronics. Since the game gives me the feeling of a haunted house--I thought some sort of game character with moving limbs/sound effects would be cool. Space is limited inside, so it would most likely be on the roof of the building. The drive bays areas are not an option because that space will house the water pump and motorized 7" LCD screen. The concept of the case is basically that its a small section of a bigger building, so the airlock would become a loosley based guide for other scale parts
*Animatronic "Sentry bot" with webcam???...hmmm Thoughts? Have it pop out of the top abd look around, complete with spotlight and weaponry.
This is a robotic pan/tilt cambot I was gonna use for my Matrix: Regenerator (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/regen_1.htm) project. Maybe it will come in handy for this project :)

Since that window is going to be all dusty in the end, you could project something onto it, like the pentagram mentioned earlier. And since its at an angle, you could sort of hide the light on the top of the inside, though you'll have to play with the angle and/or shape of the cutout to get the right shape.

Fucking Awesome work!
I have to say that this is one of the best case mods (even better than Piloux's HL2 case IMHO) I have seen in a long time. I've loved your Matrix projects and this just goes even further. You, Mashie, and gclg2000 are each doing a different aspect and design from the Doom 3 theme and I like that.
I've mentioned this to gclg2000 for his D3 case mod, You need to incorporate the chainsaw somehow into the case. The chainsaw in the Doom series is the equivalent to the crowbar in Half Life. Make a small scale one out of styrene and hide it as if it is waiting to be found or something. It just needs to be there.
A further idea for the pentagram lighting would be to have a small (4 or 6 inch) CCFL in place vertically to imitate the flashing "red lighting" thing that appears when an enemy spawns. If you can find a red lightning tube like the one Jeeves used in Project Black Lightning, that would look perfect.
You should put a few spare Oxygen tanks outside the airlock on the Martian lanscape for added detail.
I'm curious as to which type of model kits you are bashing for parts. Do you just go to a hobby store and find the cheapest kits there or do you look for specific types of kits like ships? Also, can this styrene plastic stuff be baught at most hobby stores?

Ok, I was going to read all the way through the thread to make sure i was not duplicating anyone elses idea, but it keeps growing by the minute it seems, so here goes..
First, incredible work. I am always in awe of creative talent such as yours. As for lighting, several "theme" ideas have been proposed, but since you seem to also be up on anamatronics, how about a scene that you trigger however that gets played out?
Basically I was thinking of getting some of the ideas here and creating a sequence that gets run through. Start with dim lighting, maybe the screen/monitor flickering (if that is workable) with the LED flashlight someone else proposed, but motorize it and have it slowly sweeping over the inside. Then have a light lowly flickering, then when the flashlight sweeps across the pentagram with the candles on the floor of the case, it stops, the candles light up, and then the pentagram lights up and the inside of the case explodes into red and flashing light, with the pentagram blazing.
Just a thought. All that might be too much or undoable, but I figured that if you are going for a Doom3 mod, the essential core of the game is the "feeling". My theater background tells me a small scene would fit in pulling that off. ;)
Not that you have not done that already. Again, incredible work man.

my suggestion, for the interior... I know you don't have much space in it, and you'll only have that small window... I think you should have two lights inside, a "normal" white light and some kind of UV/blacklight. When the normal light is on have the interior appear fairly normal... but, all over everything you'll have splashes of UV paint (clear as possible, I dunno what's out there) for "blood", and a big pentagram somewhere visible...
so what happens, is the normal light is on... then when the monster pops out of the top or whatever, the light switches off and the UV light comes on... but the UV light MUST be flickering, so it's a dark interior with the "blood" and the pentagram appearing to flicker in the (simulated) damaged base lighting...
I think that'd be cool but I dunno how you'd get the UV light to flicker...
just my 2 pence... :)

For a simple pentagram "projected" onto the window, you could have a second peice of lexan behind the dusty window, with a simple etching of the pentagramn (you can do it with any printer and a dremel) and a red LED. the LED goes on the edge of the lexan, and will reflect off the etched peice.
it's cheap and easy so you could play with it and see. :)

Aha!..you are right--the chainsaw has to be in there somewhere--smoke and all--it is the very signature of Doom---how about press a button and it pops out from the top of the case--real spinning chain and smoke/ sound---crazy ideas but--

I was involved in a play where they needed a pentagram projected.
Basically, all we did was take a tube and put a pentagram shape on a piece of glass. We had the Star portion blacking out the center, a little space for lines and the rest of the glass blacked out. Shining the light through it gave us a pentagram. The light has to be far enough back so that the bulb isn't pushing the light past the template.

I go for all types of kits--from sci-fi (star wars, star trek) to automotive and military. Prices range from $5 a kit up to $80. The styrene is purchased in 4x3 foot sheets at a store here in NYCity, but I'm sure it can be found online.

That's not a bad idea. Lasers already have parallel light waves (close enough) and would eliminate the need for a tube on a regular light to reduce diffusion. Might be a little small though at the projected distance.
I suppose you could do it with clear UV paint, similar to the idea mentioned above, but on the window.

That would look cool but it doesn't really fit the theme since it is supposd to be the top of the building and will be painted.
I'm glad to see that you are going to incorporate the chainsaw idea somewhere. gclg2000 is putting an actual chainsaw blade in his case. That isn't appropriate for yours since it has to be to scale but I'm sure you will have something cool and original that will fit in perfectly. Thanks for the kitbashing and styrene tips as well.

What about the idea of hooking up a strobe light (set to random, no pun intended) to the inside (might have to box it in a little, so as to not have it shine through every crack in the case) as it would add to the illusion of whatever window mod you are going todo, that there would be flickering lights on and off inside the "building". Thanks mucho, those shots are excellent--I don't think i ever could have gott'em as good. Outstanding. I really can't wait to see the final product, like many others. Would you happen to have any other screenshots for "us" to drool over? Can never have enough of those:)

I've been around the net for many years. Seen all the mods (done a few myself), read all the tutorials, but your work puts all that to shame.
Damn fine job. Damn fine. I'll be watching this thread.

Man that looks like the best mod I have ever seen so far, true professional work. I know thats its probably just the love of labor but you should definately send pics into max pc for their mod contests. Thats a sure win for whatever prize there is.

He has already won in the Max PC Mod contest so he's disqualified from winning again, but I remember seeing another magazine out there just on Mods, not sure how good it is but it's something to look into.

Heh, I htink he should send them in anyway, win or not he'd atleast get some form of mention, and you never know, they may decide to bend the rules.

He should definately send it in again, despite winning already. MaxPC wouldn't let a GREAT mod go totally unrecognized..they'd probably feature it and then say it couldn't win again or something.

The way it's shaping up to be, I'd be surprised if ID themselves didn't commision him for some work.

small update, but its taking many hours to get just right. The top of the building was smoothed out with Bondo and shaped. After wet sanding a coat of primer was given to see how its shaping up. Working now in the vertical support pieces. Each one is 5 layers of plastic sheetglued together, then carved and shaped.

Hey Crimson,
Since you do this alot, do you think you could post a few links to where you like to shop for your supplies? (plastic sheeting, good priced kits, paints, etc) Where do you use most?
Also, can you give alittle more info on the sound board? That is something that would work great for a non-casemod project I am working on... Where did you get it and how much was it?
Thanks and keep it up!

you talking about the rocks he made or the top of the case? I was thinking that about the rocks...seems awful thick for bondo (unless I read wrong, in which case I'm retarded)

while were still on the topic of bondo...
ive used this stuff called 'rage gold' autobody filler, its made by a company called evercoat. anyways this stuff is what professionals use at autobody shops cause its alot easier to sand than bondo and it also doesnt have any air pockets within the mixture so its less prone to crackin.
any experiance with this stuff crimson? nice work too! i was lookin through your case gallery and i cannot wait to see this one complete!

I've heard theres a lot better stuff out there than bondo...I think I've heard a little blurb about that filler somewhere but can't remember where/when/what was said. I'm real tempted to buy something like that when I start my case and just chuck my 1/2gal of bondo that I have sitting around

With the framing i did its extremely strong-I took a pic while standing on it--so there is 180lbs right on the bondo parts--mind you I wouldnt do this if I thought 6 hours of work would be even slightly cracked or ruined :p
