So this is the beginning of my next case mod, of a case that I bought for $1.25 at a garage sale. The idea is that I want to make a case with a black and green color scheme (case 'frame' will be painted lime green, exterior of case will be gloss black) and I wanted to load it with Green LED fans....and I want to have a biohazard symbol cut into one side panel, and put clear plexiglass behind the cut, and then get lime green cold cathodes to light up with more green. I am also planning on putting some sort of 4-6" LCD in the front where my 5.25" IDE bays are, and also a small monochrome LCD in the 3.5" bay. Anyways, This is where I will be posting up all my pics and progress as I move along... I just started this past weekend, cutting my first fan holes and such...so here it goes!

in my stupidity, I didn't take pics of the case as it was totally unmodded...but I have some pics of my first steps in the mod process.

This is the case after I had disassembled it
http://www2.pyrospheric.net/images/biohazard/sized/case-pieces.jpg

I want to somehow figure out how to put

I also decided that I was going to throw a second PSU in there to power fans and accessories

(I will look somewheres for a pic of the original..i KNOW that i took some!)

So my first idea was to mod 3x 92mm Green LED fans onto the top of the case...
so a-measuring I go...

http://www2.pyrospheric.net/images/biohazard/sized/fan-measurments.jpg

There is an opening in the top of the case right where I drew my little rectangle for the fans to fit into...and suprisingly, 3 92's fit in there about perfectly!

This is an old AT style case i think...and my motherboard I want to buy will not fit in there currently...so I used an old b0rked mobo of the same dimensions to mark off where I need to do some drilling...

I decided that since I Was going to have so many accessories in this case, I needed a second PSU, so I figured that I could just remove the HDD mounting cage in the top of the case and put a psu there..so I measured out and made a sketch on the side of the case, to be cut with a plasma torch later on this week..

So now, it's time for blowhole moddage!
I took my trusty Black & Decker RTX tool...and hacked away..
http://www2.pyrospheric.net/images/biohazard/sized/blowhole-1.jpg

And after about a half hour of more hacking...I had my 3 holes cut...
http://www2.pyrospheric.net/images/biohazard/sized/blowholes.jpg
The only problem that I had was that my drill bit sucked balls and so I kept smashing the drill down onto the paint...but thats okay..its gonna get sanded and painted anyways...
And somehow, one of my screw holes is off...but I tried lining up my fan grilles...and everything _appears_ to be the way I want it...

So this is a side shot of the case...

I want to use this (http://www.sas.org/E-Bulletin/2002-03-08/features2/art/Biohazard.gif) as a cutout on the side of my case, with a 80mm fan in the center...so if anybody might have some tips on cutting that out or drawing it on the case for a cut out for a non-visual type of person (I am not very creative!) I would appreciate it so much!

Lastly, this is where I will be placing the LCD's
http://www2.pyrospheric.net/images/biohazard/sized/case-front.jpg

So that's it for my first installment of this worklog....next time I post back, this case will hopefully be painted, and with the rest of the hacking done...it will sit dormant until I come home from college for christmas vacation!

looks good so far. not to bad for a $1.25. did it come with everything inside or was it just a case?

it had a old 1gb scsi drive in it...and a old motherboard with 96Mb of simms and a pentium overdrive 333Mhz processor....and the IDE controller was bad...meh...I am putting a dual athlon mp board in there...

looks like a nice case to work with. with the image, i'd recommend getting a cheap can of spraypaint (you could also do this with a sharpie or some other, lesser, marker) then print the image in the size you want the cutout to be (could take a couple pages depending on the size you want) then take a utility/craft knife (something sharp) and cut out the black part. tape the paper to your case (maybe also in the middle to keep it from shifting due to the small borders between cuts) and then color over it. then cut out the colored parts with some dremel work or somesuch (maybe even that plasma cutter you mentioned:D)

oh, and dude! file!

really, you need to clean those edges a LOT if you haven't already.

good luck!

Looks like shit.

I'm kidding! :D
Dude thats pretty cool for something that cost you less then $2. I'd go with a watercooling setup with that much room, IMO that would just look too cool with your theme.

How about modding the PSUs to be removable with one of these (http://www.so-trickcomputers.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=LLPSUP&Category_Code=LLC)?

I want to use this as a cutout on the side of my case, with a 80mm fan in the center...so if anybody might have some tips on cutting that out or drawing it on the case for a cut out for a non-visual type of person (I am not very creative!) I would appreciate it so much!

Print it out and make it into a square (8x8 or so) and then make it into a grid format and then make another gird on the case side mimicking the print out and then draw it on. It's pretty simple and easily.

Yeah, I have not finished up yet...I am planning on doing all my sanding and filing, etc etc at one time, maybe this weekend, and get it ready for painting

I must say, that is possibly the ugliest starting case I have ever seen. You've already made it more [H] and with what seems to be coming, I am expecting an amazing case. Well done so far! ;)
