I have two 200 GB hard drives for storage purposes that i have decided not to setup as RAID. The reason being is that if I accidentally delete a file, I am pretty much screwed. Therefore, I was thinking of have a scheduled ntbackup task every night to backup my hard drive to another one. My questions are:

- Every night, ntbackup will create a different .bak file?
- If so, and if my hard drive fails, I would have to restore every single .bak file?

What you recommend doing? Should I use another program, or ntbackup is sufficient?

That would work in theory, yes. Although consider that in a corporate/business environment you will seriously want to condsider investing in a tape drive and an incremental backup solution, say Veritas Backupexec. What solution you choose to use is based on the value of the data. I would advise against backup from one HD to another as that does not safeguard against virus/intruder attacks. If you can't afford tape, DVD may be an option, considering how much data you have and what the shelf life has to be. Once again, data backup is such a complex concept that there is no catch all solution.

If you could go into more detail about the environment that you are in and specifically the value of the data, ie, how long it would take to be reconstructed, if it is even rebuildable.

this is just a personal server. The data is important, but mostly I am just worried about a hard drive failing. If the server is down for a while, it is not really that important. RAID worked perfectly for my, but I though this would be somewhat a better idea because if I accidentally deleted something, I could retrieve it.
