Considering Microsoft made earlier comments about releasing it in the third or fourth week, I'll believe this when I see it.

Well, as it says in that link, it's released to manufacturers today, and released to web tomorrow for MSDN subscribers etc... but not available on windows update til the 25th. The 3rd or 4th week release still fits into that dating plan.

Can we download this off the internet from somewhere before then?

Ahh, yes. I didn't catch that the first skim-through. I can believe they would release to MSDN subscriptions (<bigbadwolf>all the better to test with, my dear</bigbadwolf>).

I wonder if it's actually gonna be final release or the last build before final. The link seems to be unsure as well.

Well, just in case you guys haven't seen it already, here's a link from the front page:

*Sigh* It's going to be December before they release this and then another MyDoom virus will come rolling around. *Sigh*

Maybe you weren't trying to be as funny as I thought.... I thought you were referring to the doomtards that kept posting about downloading Doom before it was available in stores.

 I hope you're not seriously considering kazaa.

The house is now taking bets on whether it will turn out to be 200MB of strange (read: horse) porn or some new virus. Kazaa is a seriously bad idea for this, especially since what you're downloading is expected to be executable.

Why? The betas that are available for free public download on Microsoft's site are worth installing.

I have it and I;ve had 0 problems with it. Even all the holes that have come out recently in IE are fixed without updating. If you install it, remember to uninstall when you install the final version. The popup blocker is great!

I agree totally and would recommend SP2 to anyone out there. I wonder how anyone could have an honest complaint with it large enough to make it not worth using.

Thats a whole SP2 article.

Reason why it's being delayed it because they are trying to make it more user friendly. They also said SP2 will be about 80 MB's. But I don't understand that since SP2 RC2 is 200 MB. But 56k users, beware. In order to make the download easier, Bill is urging that you put on Windows Update so that it can download slowly. They also mentioned that
The long-awaited update is due to be completed "in the coming days," Microsoft senior product manager Matt Pilla said

So they are almost finished up with it. Stay tuned. :)

Oh, and BTW M11. I'm not planning to download it off Kazaa. I'm not that stupid. I was just saying that people will try to find out how to get SP2 on their machines earlier than the release date. But downloading it off any other location other than microsoft would be stupid and would put a major security risk to the user.

Another Sp2 Article

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=581&e=1&u=/nm/20040805/tc_nm/tech_microsoft_dc

Saying that SP2 will be released to major manufactuers this sometime this week or next week and they are ensuring us that they will try as hard as they can to get SP2 released before September. The wait is nearing an end. :p

mixed messages here:

Microsoft, which spent more than $300 million on SP2

Some of the nearly $1 billion that's gone into Service Pack 2

SO WHAT IS IT?

Dunno. The media could consider 300 million close to 1 billion even though they are not. 2 differnt articles though from 2 different sources.

The 1 billion is probably closer to their profits (or budget), and the 300 mil is what they've spent so far.
