So i walk into my room with my 6 year old nephew just clicking away like theres no tomorrow and it turns out he deleted some shit...alright a lot of shit, i'm thinking.
Anyway i restart the thing, and here's what i get after the BIOS;

The following is missing or corrupted:
C:\windows\himen.sys
C:\windows\dblbuff.sys
C:\windows\ifshlp.sys

Type the name of the command interpreter C>_

I have no idea what this is, it might have well as been in Chinese.
Any suggestions?

***************************EDIT
If it matters, i have windows '98 w intel PIII

Just install Windows over the existing installation and it should be fine.

Well, until this nephew strikes again, at least ;)

Reinstalling windows over a previous installation never works too well.

If you need to save files first, go ahead and install a copy ontop of the previous one, but after back up stuff, I'd go ahead and reformat the computer so it runs smoothly.

....done it before with very good results, actually. If for nothing else, it will allow you to get at the data on the drive before you wipe it clean and start over.

IMHO - at this point you have little to lose. I'd try an install right over the top of the existing install, as Elledan suggested.

Good Luck - B.B.S.

Yeah, try a repair install and it should work out fine. You will have to update again and install most of your drivers again, but it will work. If you really need to save some data off the drive, look into creating a BartPE disc to move stuff to another drive, or I believe you could add burner software to the BartPE to burn stuff to disc.

If you can get into the OS, run the repair install and choose a previous date. (Located in the System Tools menu)

Then everything should be well.

find another computer with windows 98 and use the search feature to find the files that are corrupt on your pc. burn them to a disk

get a copy of knoppix linux or a bootable version of dos.
burn it to a cd.

boot from a cd and replace the missing files, there probably in your /windows , /windows/system or your windows/system32 folders.

this will probably work

cheek if you have windows 98 or windows98 second edition
