I got home, installed the game and everytime I attempted to load the game my system would force itself to reset. I thought it may have been the drivers, nope. The BIOS, nope. I was so frustrated because I was so close to playing the game but I couldn't because of this stupid "error". I was about to attempt a reformat when I posted on the sfftech forums. I thought maybe my system was the problem but no other games causes this and my system is rock solid. It turns out that I'm required to uninstall any burning software I have installed.

Does anyone else find this to be completely uncalled for? Is id going to pay for my now useless DL DVD burner, my blanks and any damage it might have caused by FORCING my system to reset? They should have at least provided a big, fat warning before you install the program. OK, I'm done ranting now. Back to playing this game and pissing my pants.

I knew on some systems, it simply did not install.. but wow, it certainly crosses the line from what you are saying. I can understand how frustrated you must be. I just hope ID opens their eyes to this issue. Causing the consumer to loose further amounts of money and bring about damage is simply unacceptable (expecially when what your doing is 100% legal).

It might depend a lot on your burning software. For instance Alchohol 120%, once installed, has background programs running that do affect how your computer reads CDs/DVDs.

I have a feeling it's due to brand, spanking-new SafeDisk3 trying to thwart said programs from emulating the possibility copy protection.

That said, it still sucks ass. Usually SafeDisk doesn't have this type of problem. It's more commonly associated with the more exotic protections like SecuROM.

You're talking like you have damage to the drive, when you said it just required you to uninstall burning software?

I just meant corrupt data, not physical damage. I'd return this game tomorrow but because I opened it Game Stop won't accept it back.

eBay it. You might get the $20,000,100 Doom 3 seller :p

I have this same problem. I use Nero 5.5 and Clone CD 4. I also use WinDVD 4, which may or may not be a factor. Either way, I manually removed all entries from my startup concerning those programs by using msconfig and verified that no apps related to them were running in the background (I even did Google searches on apps I was unsure of). Game still won't run. Does this POS copy protection simply look in your registry to see if you have (OR HAD) one of these programs installed and therefore refuse to run? I read in another thread about someone having this same problem and even after uninstalling the burning software he couldn't run the game...

Course, you could just do like I did and download a no-cd crack, figuratively flip id the bird, and tell them "thanks for nothing". I love buying a legit copy of a game and having to deal with shit like this simply because of overzealous copy protection software.

Fun.

Is it Id or Activision out of curiousity? And are you sure the hard reset isn't due to an overclock or RAM timings set tighter then they should be? I had to relax lots of things in my system hardware wise to get Doom3 to run. Its insane but I had to underclock my CPU, RAM, and video card before it would run. It is so sensitive...

Actually, I'm not having the reset problem. Just won't run due to a message saying I have CD/DVD emulation software running....

Sorry, problem I was referring to was where rorrim mentioned the CD burning software.

No problem with the game after installing the no-cd crack. Game itself runs just fine. Better than I expected actually.

I, too had to uninstall my duplication software, which I use all the time to archive files, pictures, etc. Does anyone know what software it doesn't care about? I had Nero 6 and CloneCD on my system and uninstalled them both to play. Does Doom3 care about Nero, or do I need to just install it, use it, uninstall it, play doom3? Thanks.

I have Nero 6 installed and can run Doom 3 no problem.

...CloneCD and Alcohol 120 seem to be the packages that are causing the most grief.

My kid had to completely uninstall CloneCD to get the game to run. Unchecking the "Hide CDR Media" box didn't do squat.....

Some say id is already planning the first patch to remove all this scanning for DVD/CD emulation software like CloneCD and also removing the requirement of having the CD in your tray to play, similar to what UT 2004 now has. Hope for the best.
