I've been having some trouble with my hard drives lately.. actually it has been a while! From time to time while doing basic tasks on my computer the hard drive would shut down on me! It'd do that 'shut down' noise [the noise that the hard drive makes when the computer goes from on to completely off].. and within a split second it would turn on again! Windows XP and everything would be fine for about 5 seconds and everything would freeze... I've wasted a lot of DVD's due to this problem and really annoying when I'm working on stuff and it would just close on me for no reason..

Is this a problem with the hard drive? mother board? power supply?

400 watt raidmax ps
I'm running a 0+1 raid 2 western digital 80gb drives...
3 optical drives...
1 case fan
radeon 9800 pro card
and other basics...

thank you for any help!

You're saying that you've got a RAID 0+1 array using only two HDDs? Impressive ;)

Anyway, is it just one HDD that is shutting down? Does this happen only when in Windows, or also when just in the BIOS config screen? Do you have to do anything specific (e.g. copying a file) to cause this behaviour?

It might be that the HDD is going bad, the PSU might be bad or supplying not enough juice, or Windows is screwed up.

Definitely run WD's HDD diagnostic utility on these HDDs as a start.
