2 HHD 2 Burners What set up ?

I looked in teh FAQ but it only really mentions 1 hhd and 1 optical drive so I am building a new system and I am hoping thing have gotten better since the last I built a system

I have 1 40gb and 80gb HD's I also have 1 DVD Burner and a DVD/CDRW combo drive. The general idea would be copying from one optical to the other as needed.

This system will have XP Pro on it, so would the better set up be both opticals on the sme channel or having them as slaves to the HD's ?

Currently on my 98se box its notreal happy with both opticals on the same ide channel.

The DVD +/-RW is a Pioneer unit and the DVDrom/CDRW is a samsung and I just picked it up if that makes a differnace.

Both HDDs on Primary channel, and both optical drives on the secondary. Back in 1997 when I had a 1x CD-R drive, it "occasionally" had problems making a direct copy of a CD from the CD-ROM drive. That "issue" is totally and completely gone and irrelevant. I prefer to keep optical and HDD drives separate.
