Well I bought the Western Digital raptor and a Soltek motherboard. I can not get windows to install on this HD, nor does it let me install the drivers from the floppy that soltek sent me. When I try to change the settings for the SATA/RAID config, it wont let me do anything, I think you need to have 2 hd plugged in but I only want one.
Yes, for RAID you need a minimum of 2 drives. Go into the BIOS/RAIDconfig screen upon bootup, and disable the RAID. You cannot use RAID with only one drive.

Soltek, huh?
Perhaps your motherboard supports only RAID on the SATA interface. Does the manual say that it can be disabled?

Are you loading the SATA drivers?
