Hi guys,

Here is my problem, due to the careless connection and disconnection of my HD(80G, Western Digital) without power off, the BIOS, sometimes recognizes it, sometimes not, and win2k definitely doesn't accept it.

I tried the tool provided by the manufacturer, and EasyRecovery, but no luck.

I am wondering if there is other way to fix the problem without sending it to the manufacturer(to get the replacement), and get the data recovered?

I desperately need some(about 5G) of those data, what is the cost if I ask for the help from a data recovery company?

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you might have some fried electronics. The cheapest method might be to somehow get your hands on the same model drive and swap the electronics from the new drive to the old drive.

Data recovery is very, very expensive. I would expect something like a thousand or so. Maybe (probably?) even more. Any reputable data recovery company will give you an estimate of how much data they can recover and will allow you t decide based on that. I believe that must of them charge somewhere around $100 for the estimate.

Good luck.

Data recovery is highely expensive.

WHY would you disconnect the drive with the power? It specifically tells you not to in the manual.

Thank you both for the tips. I think I will try to swap the electronics.
