I have an a7v600-x mobo, and i also found some old sound card. Is the onboard audio good enough that i shouldn't even bother with the card i found? Its old, but recent enough that its pci.

"Old sound card" could be about 50 different products. Need more details, is it too difficult to state or find out what kind of card it is?
Subjective listening would probably be your best way to test out your preferences.

old card = some ensoniq card that has on board joystick port of all things.

ensoniq was bought out by Creative. I am not sure of "when" but I believe it was before the advent of the Live! series. (live series was the "real" start of 4.1 or better support at creative.)
I think the onboard sound will be much better. I also doubt you find any XP drivers for the card.

Actually the SB128 offered 4.1 audio long before the Live cards ever came on the scene, but it and the other Sound Blaster PCI cards are little more then "Tweaked" Ensonic cards.
And, yes... Widows XP has native drivers for those cards.
Back to the topic at hand.
I agree. Try them both figure it out for yourself. ;)
