windows update says i'm not ADMIN

I am the one who installed the XP, so I am the admin, but Windows update says that I am not, and so it won't let me update.

Just because your the one that installed Windows XP, doesn't mean that your an admin. Sure you configured the password but you might of decided to use another account etc.

Make sure you go into Computer Management and make sure the user your currently logged under is in the administrative group.

I'm there, but what do I check?

Click Local Users and Groups
Click Groups
Click Administrators
Check to see if your User name is on the list
If not, go and find it on another list
In order to make yourself an Admin, you'd have to log into under the computer administrative account, the one made during the windows installation


Let me know if your the admin or not. If your not, I'll give you more instructions. BTW, this is assuming you have Win XP.

yes, I am on the list.

there is also a user called 'administrator'.

yeah, but not on my account. Only the Admin one.

I always used to be able to do it on my one though.

so it's weird.
