View Full Version : XP wants Floppy during Shutdown?

Just reloaded XP on my kids machine. During the midst of many reboots, it started accessing Drive A during shutdown. I never used any floppies during the reload at all, so I don't know why it wants to see a disk in the drive during shutdown. I even unplugged the floppy drive during one boot, and it still asked for a floppy in the drive during shutdown! Any ideas?

Do you have a virus scanner on the machine? Lots of virus scanners have an option to "Scan floppy on shutdown". Check your settings for that.
Oh, and if you don't have one:
A) Not sure why it does that and
B) Get one. :p

Running NOD32, but I think it started the Floppy thing even before I got to installing NOD. I was using the XP Autopatcher program I believe, but could be mistaken. I'll check the NOD settings when I get home. Thanks

Checked NOD32 and didn't see any scan on shutdown settings. I've completely disconnected the drive and disabled it in BIOS (and XP I think) and still get the message on shutdown. PC won't continue to shutdown until I cancel out of the message. Any other ideas? Could any of the anti-spyware be doing it? (Adaware, spybot, spywareblaster)

Wait, is it just looking at the floppy drive (light turns on and buzzes) or does it actually give you a message asking for it?
If its giving you a message, please post what the message says. Your first post doesn't mention it, but your previous one says you can't shut down without clicking cancel?
Post all parts of the message box, including the title. (Very top left, which most likely will give a hint as to what program the box originated from).

Norton will not let the machine reboot with a floppy in the drive (not sure if this can be disabled), that's why it seeks the drive. Put a disk in and shut down, you will see the error.
edit: <----- reading comp --
OK, something must be screwed up with Norton, uninstall it and see if the problem is still there.

I'm running NOD32 with default settings. Have it on my other machine too and never had a request for a floppy, or error on shutdown.

I have the exact same problem, I am running NOD32 and have no floppy installed and it is disaabled in bios. every time I shutdown any version of windows it give me the error message "the drive is not ready for use; it's door may be open. Please check drive A: and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed." This did not start until after installing NOD32 so I know that is the problem. ANy help would be appreciated.
