norton corporate...windows installer error

i've tried installing my copy of norton corporate several times...the same msg appears...which is...

"The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assitance"

I am not running in safe mode
I have all the privledges that the admin has
i'm running xp pro sp1


no clue as to why it wont work....
any suggestions?

Maybe your Norton installer's bad? I installed it on fresh XPsp1 installs like 5x last week so it's clearly not a fundamental incompatability.


either that or you broke your windows. yay reinstall

i got it working...had to manually register msiexec.exe

Windows Installer can become corrupted on occasions. Use msicuu.exe (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-GB;842813) to remove evidence of the Windows Installer service from the machine and then reinstall the redistributables (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=4B6140F9-2D36-4977-8FA1-6F8A0F5DCA8F) from Microsoft.
