Hey all,

I want some input on what you think could be wrong with my cd burner. I am pretty sure it is a Acer 40*20*10 - not sure on anything else. I am just using the normal Windows XP (professional) drivers and its been acting wierd lately:

It is randomly trying to read cd's even though i havent tried to access the cd rom and even though there is no cd actually in the drive. It seems to be fairly random in these accesses and at best guess i would say once per half hour.

I tried burning some cd's today for a friend using his 'very cheap' cd's and both times nero crashed.

So to my question... what is probably the problem and how can i troubleshoot a cdrom drive? I mean... new burners are cheap as but i want to know if this one is dead or not before buying something new.

Thanks in advance for any help/

try the drive in another machine
re-install nero
if you have more than 1 optical drive, change its spot on the ide cable
if you put a cd in the burner and explore the cd in my computer, does it work?

It's probably your computer having 17 viruses on it.
