My athlon 700 MB took a shit on me, so im looking for something small to do a simple task. Its been years since I have really kept up with what is available so I am hoping someone on here can help me out.
I only need 2 bays, 1 for a cd burner and the other for my AX44 audio input box (both 5.25"). If possible I would like to reuse my athlon 700 cpu (socket A) but its not that important if I can get something else for cheap. I only need 1 PCI slot for the yamaha DSP Factory card, and room for 1 HD. Its just an audio recording computer, so a built in LAN and Video setup is fine for it. Pricing...cheap as possible.
Any suggestions are appreciated. If I have to get a mid tower to keep it cheap ill deal with that but im hoping for some mico ATX or other setup.

not many SFF cases have 2x 5.25" bays

Hmm... don't know that you will find it in a small "Shuttle/XPC" style case. Probably have to go with either a Micro ATX tower or desktop to get 2 5.25" bays. Head over to newegg.com and browse their case section to get some good ideas.

Yep, unless you make one of those 5.5 bays USB2/1394, which will require more spending which seems like something you don't want to do.
What exactly does the AX44 do, perhaps it might be already built into the motherboard of the SFF.

It doesnt have to have that exact amount, I just wanted to show that I didnt need a lot of bays. It can have 3 or 4 as long as its small. Ive been seeing something about micro ITX but no clue what that is. Weight is more of a concern to me than size really, but smaller should be lighter (unless its an iron case, then its not light:P).

Lian-li do a nice m-atx ali tower that should do your 2*5 1/4 requirement, Shuttles only have 1*5 1/4 and I have a soltek Qbic IQ3601 that has 2*5 1/4 but the build quality is poor.
how about an Antec Aria case?

Thanks for the links, im checking them out now. the 700mhz is plenty of power for what I do, so that one setup for 116 looks pretty cool. Can I use that MB with a 700 though and just get new ram? I have my doubts and the cpus are cheap enough anyway:)

One thing really suspicious is the cut-off of the user review?
"This ASUS T2-R was bought for my daughter to replace a older computer that had a bad MB. I was quite happy with the quality overall and was able to build in about an hour. Here are the pro and cons.See complete review>...."
the link dies there
I hope newegg is not playing foul.

No..its just that Newegg doesnt allow Users to post links to other website's for reviews..
they always delete them out.
