I would like to start this post by saying that I know nothing (0) about hard drives.

ok I have a choice between buying either
1) WESTERN DIGITAL 36.7GB SATA RAPTOR HARD DRIVE
or
2) WESTERN DIGITAL 80GB 7200RPM 8MB CACHE HARD DRIVE

Is the Raptor so signifigantly better/faster as to being priced so much higer?

Will it increase performance by a large margin?

I just picked up a raptor... It is pretty quick, but they are best in pairs for Raid-0.

It makes a little more noise than I would like in this aluminum case, but it is tolerable...

For the money, a 120gb or 160gb Samsung Spinpoint sata drive may be a better choice... Quiet, fairly fast and tons more storage space... Seagate and Hitachi are also good choices....
