ok so i switched from air to water a while ago and ive noticed that my voltage regulators are running really, really hot...

http://flecom.net/[H]OCP/regulators.jpg

mbm and my tyan utility show the regulators at running @ 65* C for the first set (on the left) and 70~75* for the ones on the right...

and i dont think thats very far off from true becuase you quite literally cannot touch these things after my machine has been on for a few hours or you will get a nasty burn

so im thinking i need to cool these suckers, but they are soooooo damn tiny... anyone know where i can get a heatsink that can squeeze in there?

BGA Ramsinks should work... Or here are some generic heatsinks, some of which will be ok: http://www.mouser.com/catalog/618/1123.pdf

no no no no no, no way in hell im ever placing an order with mouser again

and the regulators are much smaller than a bga chip, they should be ok for some, but others are between caps and coils and fun stuff like that so i dunno what to do for those :(

Sidewinder Computers (http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/mimi.html) has the Microcool Microsinks. These are very nice, and very small. Should fit the bill.

overclockers.com/tips (http://www.overclockers.com/tips1027/)
Tried that on a Tyan MP board.
It died.

Luck......... :D

Just a week ago I hacked up an old green anodized pentium heatsink for mosfet coolers :D
Used the thermal adhesive that comes with the zalman NB coolers. My mosfets are much happier now
I'll take a pic of 'em for shits if anyone wants to see.

usually it is just the mosfets (small black 3 prong squares) that get very hot, i wouldnt worry about the inductors (donuts) or capacitors.

now standard equipment on the K8W ;)

Obviously, dual Opteron CPU's consume a lot of power, and such, the motherboard's VRM modules for each CPU are equipped with heatsinks of their own, which can get staggeringly hot during normal operation. Also, as you can see

some nice pics
