Ok, so i start Ocing my 2500+ to a 3200+ haven't been able to get a stable overclock yet.. though i think i'm close.. but one thing that i noticed is that one of my case fans likes' to spike in RPMs every 5 seconds or so.. for example. earlier today it was jumping every 5 seconds or so between 3000 RPM and 6000 RPM... and actually as i type this. it's jumping from 2000 RPM to 4000 RPMs every 5 seconds or so. I dont think the overclock broughtt this weird thing.. i just never really started checking my fan RPMs till i started overclocking..

what i'm gonna do later is change the fan and see what happens, but i won't be able to do that in a while. Anyone ever experience this? got any suggestions?

My mobo is a A7N8X-E Deluxe, with 1 gig of PC3200 RAM, and a 2500+ RPM..

FYI: This fan speed jumping happens when my CPU is overclocked and also at stock speeds.. i don't remember who makes the case fan i have here.. i got a year ago.. i think it's a vantec fan, and I think it is a temp controlled fan..not sure... anyone got any ideas? I'll report what happens when i change the fans

I appreciate it..

Oh i almost forgot, Also when i put my ear to the fan i hear no difference in the noise produced when the RPMs jump, and i also feel no difference in the amount of air hitting my hand when the RPMs jump..

Also, I'm open to the posibillity that the ASUS probe is buggy.. cause i discovered a bug in the program. If you have ASUS probe V2.21.08 running at the same time as CPU-z, all the fan readings drop out to like 0 or near 0. So i think the posibillity of buggy software is there.. what do you guys think?

Sounds like your getting a bogus reading. This isn't really a fix but I think this program is pretty cool for controlling fans on mobo...Speedfan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php) Should help you keep a closer eye on things too.

Thanks.. i'll check the program out... i was swapping fans and stuff.. and it seems like the fan is sending a screwed up signal to the motherboard.. i tried different fans on the same 3 pin connector, and it's just that one fan that's giving me screwy readings..Do you guys think i should just go ahead and replace the fan?

I would say since u don't feel or hear any difference between 2000RPM and 4000RPM or whatever it would almost have to be the probe however I have never used that program so i don't know exactly how it works but I would try another software and see if its the software or the actual probe on the board. If its the probe on the board I would say send it back.

Also you said u were having probs hitting 3200+ w/ ur 2500. Is it a barton.. a mobile .... it might be that ur BIOS settings need some more optimizing.... more info plz because i have always found RPM meters for fans to be buggier than hell so i prolly wouldn't atribute that to ur oc prob.

Hey i tried the program.. the RPMs still jump.. like i said before i tried different fans, and they don't jump.. it's just this one fan.. so i'm just gonna replace it soon, even though i don't hear or feel a change in it's speed.. just to be safe.. fans don't cost a millino bucks anyway.. As for the overclock.. i just think my Vcore was too low.. i bumped up the Vcore and i'm currently testing.. if you want more info about the overclock read the thread Overclock won't pass Prime95..
