ok... i don't understand changing memory voltages and overclocking...

and to further confuse this subject... i am probably getting a shuttle, which you can't change the vdimm on becasue it kills them...

so... i am looking at this:
sn41g2v2
2200+ xp mobile 35 watt.. 1.35v

i want to be able to push the xp moble as close to 400 fsb as i can...

will any pc3200 work? or not? or should i get 3500?

what factors cause the need for raising the vdimm? pushing memory past spec? ie.. pc3200 > 400 fsb??

or does the vdimm need to be changed relative to the processor voltage??

and what memory would you reccomend to go with an sn41g2v2 and a 35 2200+ 1.35v @1.65v.. this is what shuttle suggests. (http://www.shuttle.com/hq/support/faq/supportlist2.asp?model=SN41G2%20V2&vr=SN41G2%20V2%20(FN41V3.X)&page=2)

i want 512mb.. probably a single one so i can upgrade later... i was originally just going to get the $89 mushkin.. but i could spend more.. >$150 would really be breakin my balls though...

If you overclock the DIMM's past their default speeds you MAY need to raise the Vdimm and if you set the timings manually and try to run them tighter you MAY have to raise the Vdimm. Its best not to raise the Vdimm higher then what the DIMM's are recommended to run at by the manufacturer. You do not need to raise the Vdimm in relation to the processor voltage.

I would just get something good from Mushkin, Kingston, or Corsair. PC3200 should be enough. PC3200 = 200Mhz FSB so if you push the FSB past 200Mhz you wont get far with PC3200. If your planning to clock past 200Mhz you may want to get PC3500 or higher. You do realize the mobiles are multiplier unlocked so you can just raise the multi instead of having to try to get past 200Mhz FSB right?

i only want to get the mobile as close to 400 as possible, not even over 400... then maybe change the multiplier... but it would make sense to raise the fsb first so you get the benifit of the increased memory bandwidth..

would this ram work? http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-146-219&depa=0

or should i go for cas 2.. maybe geil golden dragon??

If you can afford it i would get Mushkin lvl 1 or Kingston HyperX. If not then that Mushkin value RAM will work just fine. It just wont run quite as tight of timings.

And yes you want to raise your FSB to the max first and THEN raise the multi. You want your FSB as high as you can get it.
