Going to be putting this setup together and do want to overclock a bit...

Would it be better to get lower latency PC3200 pairs from Corsair or

PC3700 or PC4000 memory from Geil for a little cheaper? Thanks!

AMD thrives on low latencies, so my best recommendation would be to pick up a pair of the new Corsair 3200XL sticks...2-2-2-5 at 400mhz, with the ability to clock up to 500mhz at CL2.5....you can't go wrong there. Its a bit expensive, but seems to be well worth the cash outlay.

Is it a proven fact that it can overclock that high? Corsair has had some damn good sticks of RAM that OC well, as I remember PC3500 XMS that hit PC4000 marks or above, but that was phenomenal OCing on it's part. That was also BH5, something they've since discontinued I believe.

Personally, I'd get something like PC3500 or maybe PC3700 and try and run tighter timings at the lower speed, as you won't make it to PC3700 speeds OCing an A64 most likely.

um you arnt gonna hit 500mhz at 2.5-2-2-5 timings thats for sure. you gonna have to do like 2.5-4-4-8 or maybe even 3-4-4-8, but thats still some damn good overclocked for these memory sticks!

i currently am clocked at 460 mhz with these sticks of mem at 2.5-3-3-8

My Corsair 3200 2/2/2/5 runs at those timings upto 222FSb then i switch the timings to 2/3/3/6 at 240 i gotta go to 2.5/3/3/6 at 250 i cant run many programs but it boots, never messed around with it too much but the ram is fast and well worth the money.

my corsair 3200ll doesn't hit 500. i have to run a 5:4 divider. fooey.
but it does go up to 225 fsb or so... still at low timings.

If you are thinking of using mushkin level 2 memory, 2-2-2 timings dont work on the Neo2 939 board, you have to use 2-3-2. My machine is stable as a rock now and someone else i know who has the same memory had the same thing too. Id imagine all BH5 will be the same.

If you are considering an nforce3 chipset, you might want to do a search on those two available s939 motherboards as some people (myself included) are having dual-channel problems with the Samsung based 2-2-2-5 (such as the Corsair 3200XL) memory.

I'm going to try Crucial ballistix tomorrow and see if that helps. Not sure if the VIA guys are having any dual channel issues or not... might just be the nforce3. :dunno

PCI AGP lock problems for Via. Dual Channel problems for Nvidia. Great choices for 939 chipsets so far.

I am using Mushkin Lvl 2 in the A8V at work, runs beautifully, even more so now that we put a GT in it :D

You can see I'm using Corsair in the sig with an nforce3. No problems, but I haven't tried any OC yet. over 13000 in 3Dmarks 03, and of course the LED's are sweet :)
