I built a system back in late October 2001....sold it to one of my mom's old co-workers in December.

Apparantly, it recently got struck by lightning, and the system was replaced.

I asked if I could get the old system backand got it

here's the old specs
MSI KM133 chipset (KT133 w/ integrated Savage4) *DEAD*
Duron 750 *working* (ThermalTake Volcano 2 heatsink)
256mb PC-100 *working* (1 128stick sold, the other (a micron) still in hand)
15gb harddrive *not included*
floppy *working*
4x4x24 CD-RW *upgraded to 40x12x40 Plextor; working*
32x CD-ROm *working*
56k modem *not included*
realtek 10/100 NIC *not included*
PSU works as well...although it runs hot and is only 130W or so. I'd need to replace it.

Any thoughts on what to do with this?

i vote for mashie's "paint job" and turn it into a server of some description, can never have too many computers sitting around crunching numbers or something =D

A server just won't do me that much good....

Mobile Workstation
T42P: Pentium-m 745, 1gb DDR, FireGL T2, DVD-RW, 60gb 7200, 80gb 5400, 15" UXGA, 802.11ABG, XP-P

Ultraportable
X31: Pentium-m 1.4ghz, 512mb DDR, Mobility Radeon, 40gb 5400, 12.1" XGA, 802.11ABG, XP-P / Fedora Core 2


As you can see...I've got a file server...this small system would do me no good for that.

The Ultraportable serves as my download system for Bit Torrents.

The Mobile Workstation serves as my portable powerhouse, powerful enuogh for LAN parties.


The Pia server idea jsut does me no good, as it requires more money, work, and space, to se than what I currently have set up.

Oh well.

I used to want one of those so bad in 2001. Last week I went to a local computershop that had one back in the day and to my surprise they still had it on their shelf! Although last time I checked it was way to pricey,, a bit over 100 dollars. I think it still is. And to be fair there are lots of other interesting Micro-ATX cases around these days than in 2000/2001.

Isn't that a little weird to:

1. Sell the case (and other parts) to a customer.
2. Ask for the case back for free.
3. Sell the case to someone else?

labor + the fact I traveled 150 miles 1 way to work on their new computer. I'm sure that old system will make up for the 6 hours on the road + 2 hours in house working on the new one.

and they were just throwing it away anyway ;)

Actually, I just asked for the chassis. I got everything else that came with it....tested it all, and only the mobo and modem were bad.

I came out way ahead :)

Looks to me like it has the potential for an excellent trunk mounted mp3 player.Maybe even some GPS action if you have a cell phone. Or you could turn it into a USB powered easy-bake oven. :D

Can you fit a normal ATX PSU inside it or does it crash with the harddrive bays...

Thats a damn nice case!
