Not for mee because I would never buy a Dell, but my friend is getting married and he wants more RAM to make his thousand dollar Dell Desktop run better. So, I am the guy (I told him I could build him better computer for cheaper, but he couldnt wait).

Does anyone know the speed and type of RAM that Dell Uses?

I am thinking DDR 2700 184 pin. am I right?

Maybe. Or maybe not. You haven't provided sufficient info to be sure either way.

Check in through the BIOS menu when booting to see what type of memory it is, else go to the Dell site and go through the motions of getting the upgrade from them and see what kind of memory it tries to sell you for the model your friend has (or just look up the specs for that model on the Dell site).

Also I believe that www.kingston.com does a similar system to crucial, IIRC Dell uses kingston in their machines.

Depends on the model number and processor included. Normally a waste to get anything which supports highend timings as the bios is very conservative.

Dell will sell you a good cpu and a good video card, along with the cheapest possible components they can find.

I've had excellent results using Crucial for memory upgrads in the Dell's at work - Laptops, desktops, servers.. you name it. Usually WAY less than what you could get from Dell.

My work place is a total Dell shop... Dell is fantastic for a work environment especially with 3 hour support... as for home I would never touch it.

I just opened 3 systems

Optiplex GX260 - 2 sticks of generic Samsung 256Mb - 333 Mhz
Optiplex GX270 - 2 sticks of generic Nanya 256Mb - 400 Mhz
Optiplex GX150 - 1 stick of Micron 512 Mb

You can pretty much use whatever you want...
