I am a hardcore Counterstrike gamer and I play pretty my every FPS there is. I currently am using the Logitech MX700 and was wondering if I should spend the money to buy a mx510 since it is better for gaming? will I see an improvement and is it worth the money?

Most definitely. I have this mouse...since I'm also a hardcore gamer. It's worth it simply because all the damned buttons work in games. In the past with Logitech mice, not all the buttons worked for me...not even if I uninstalled the Logitech drivers and used the regular M$ drivers. Not only don't all the buttons work on the M$ drivers, but the accuracy is horrible using them.

I speak from experience. But, that's my 2 cents.

Where are you buying the MX510 anyway? I need a new mouse and I could only find it at two stores. One was Z-buy which seems to be a good reliable store to buy from.

I picked up the MX510 at Best Buy. Great mouse. Certainly a huge improvement over my old optical logitech mouseman.

I had an an Intellimouse Explorer [not sure which rev] I must say that I really like the MX510. The only game I really play now is Americas Army and the mouse is REALLY nice. It's a lot smoother and accurate in games. Not to mention the buttons are very useful in just normal Windows Environments. I like the buttons that act like the mousewheel... whatever they call it. Very nice for long documents.

I'd say if you already have an optical mouse, you probably won't notice THAT big a difference, and you'll have to think about whether it's worth the 40 bucks. However, if you're still using a ball mouse, then go buy one immediately.

I'll tell you what, i've tested both the Logitech MX500, MX510, and Microsoft Intellimouse 4.0 w/ tilt wheel and i own the Intelli 4.0 for that reason. The Logitech mice had a cheaper feel to them and weren't nearly as comfortable as the new Intelli 4.0. Go to Best Buy and check both of them out. I guess it has alot to do with what your used to using but for me the Intelli 4.0 wins hands down.

I just picked up the mx510 as well. I was looking at the Intelli 4.0 as well, but I have to say, the mx510 beat every mouse I've used before. CS takes up a good chunk of my gaming time as well, and I would definently recommend the 510 if you play a lot of CS.

well see Im using the MX700 and love it. I dont think I would ever go back to MS unless they had the rechargeable docking station like mine. I dont like buying batteries. Plus having wireless is really nice. I was just wondering on how big of a difference it would be to go to the mx510. From what Ive read, I might as well just stay with the Mx700.

logitech mice own M$ mice hands down. check teh specs. And I have to say that one of my friends has a 510 and another has your tilt wheel mouse and after a few months of use the tilt wheel is loose and kinda broken

MS mice and keyboards are higher quality and better built. At least vs. all the logitech keyboards and mice i've used they are. The Intelli 4.0 is an ergo so it fits perfectly into most people's hands. MS will even send you out new mouse feet or a new mouse when they wear out. I've used the MX510 and i didn't like it. It wasn't as comfortable in my hand and i dont like the side buttons. The Intelli 4.0 uses the same optical sensor that the MX500 uses. Your not going to notice a performance difference between a Intelli 4.0 and a MX510, believe me. I've tried them both and i own the Intelli 4.0 for a reason.

But to each his own because different people like different mice.

I bought the red Logitech MX510 and I absolutely love it.
The only mouse I have owned that I liked more was the Razer Boomslang 2000, and yes, it was a ball mouse.
This MX510 owns all of the MS optical mice I've owned.

It's impossible to find a retailer that carries these in Canada. :(

I would not recommend it if you already have the mx700. Teh mx510 is a waste if you buy it just for CS. It's great for Ut2004 and Qauke3 though, just my 2 cent.

I've used both and I felt like the Microsoft Mice had the cheaper feel to them. The MX-510 isn't worth it over the 500 if you already have one. If not I recommend that mouse highly.

The precision is exactly the same for the intellimouse 4.0 and the 510...

But the tilt wheel on the intellimouse 4.0 is utter crap. I mean it take 30 seconds to scroll a page from left to right since the speed bar donīt make any difference whatsoever. And it has an aweful mushy feel though itīs smooth operation is awesome in games like FS 2004 where you zoom in and out a lot or just changing the altitude or speed heading settings for the autopilot.

But I liked the form of the older intellimouse 3.0 better really. And the increased smoothness is quite subtle though you definiatly can feel it.

Btw how is thermaltakes new offerings? They also have the same precision but is a lot cheaper and is suitable for both lefties and righties?
