ok, I just got 120% and am tring to make copies of my games so I do'nt have to keep switching disks, but am having trouble.

What format should I copy the disk into?
mds
ccd
cue
iso

and once the copies are done, how do I map it to the virtual drive?

I think alcohol has a default image type, you can't go wrong with that. Most of my images are in bin/cue format, and a couple in .iso or .img

I think you have to set it up, but you should be able to right cliick on your image and mount it.

Play around and you'll figure it out in a hurry.

Good luck

i just use mds. it works for me.

i dont really think it matters what image format you use. but i'd guess since it's software, that the native format would do better on the software.

You can use any format you want, it doesn't really matter and for the image mounting, right click on the image and there should be an option to mount it on whatever virtual drive you want.

Be sure to also check in the options to remount the image every time the pc boots. Sometimes alcohol will remove the image so then you will need to mount it again.

Backing up games is a function of three major things software, hardware, and the copyprotection (i.e. SecureRom, Safedisc, Tajes, ect....).

What games are you trying to back up?

What burner are you using?

What IDE drivers are you using?

the games are Tribe2, BF1942, Tron 2.0, Mechwarrior, Starsiege, AvP, Kingpin,SWAT 3, Worms 2, Q3

The drives I have are a TDK CDRW5200b and a Compaq DVD-ROM SD-612B

Download A-Ray Scanner to tell you what copy protection each game is using.

http://aray-software.com/

Then use each game's profile in Alcohol to back up the game.

A great site for info.

The reason why it DOES matter which you use is that properly configured, bin/cue looses a lot of the data (such as subchannels) that many copy protections rely on. And iso won't even work with pretty much anything beyond a plain cd check that simply looks to see if the files are on a drive that appears to be a cdrom (see windows 3.1 and dos games with maybe one or two windows 95 games for a list of those that PROBABLY will work with this...) Ok, I exagerate, but I can assure you that very few indeed will work with the iso format.

Basically, use the mds normally, but ccd might work as clone cd is also quite good.

BTW, digitalman is on the right track. Sometimes you really need to use different settings for each game. Some have half of a million error just to make copying not worth it for example, and if you don't use a fast skipping method, then you can pretty much count on just sitting around waiting for the rest of the day. Those database type things will help immensely.
