Virus in win98?

cant open msconfig
connects with dial up modem , but cant pull up any web pages
when I try to ping a website I get an illegal operation but I can ping myself but not other ip's



I ripped and reinstalled dial up networking and tcp-ip but still same results on connection ..dials up and hand shakes and gives me the little icon indicating I'm connected ..but cant pull anything off of net

forgot how to ripp and reinstall winsock files ..been along time

comp is a Dell
P2 400mhz
192megs ram
ISA 56k Sportster modem


any and all help would be much appreciated in getting this thing fixed ...maybe I just need to reinstall windows and at least get win98se back on it

I was working on a computer the other night that had this same problem.

It was verrrrry infected with Beagle. Download the cleaner off of symantecs website and run it on that box.

Symantec's cleaner is pretty good about repairing all the infected system files so you don't have to nuke your OS.

Just don't use their cleaner. The only option it will give you is to delete the infected files.
