how can you ensure windows XP saves the link icons when you add a new link to favorites, when I add to favorites they show up but the next day they are gone? (for internet explorer 6)

If you're talking about Favicons, then I don't think any browser saves them permanently.

you manually have to rip them from the cache if you want to keep them longer.
