What's up everyone. I'm going to install linux on my machine, and I was wondering if anyone has tried Fedora Core 2 (the test version) yet, as I was interested in using that one.

My other comps all have Gentoo installed, so I'm going to use something else this time around.

Thanks for any experiences/tips.

P.S. If not Fedora Core 2, I'll be looking at installing Fedora Core, Debian, Slackware, or possibly even give Darwin a try.

I installed it out of curiosity but I couldn't get my USB wireless card working. I played with it a bit though and it seemed pretty cool. Lots of eye candy but a bit sluggish compared to my slackware box. Never was a huge Redhat fan myself though.
Installation was really easy. That's about all I can say. I only had it on my hard drive for a day.
If youre looking at something other than gentoo give slackware a try. I've used a few gentoo installs and really liked the speed and portage features. If I had the time to compile it all I'd probably use it for my own box. Slackware won't disappoint you though.

I wouldn't use FC 2.0 BETA as your first Linux experience. Linux can be 'wonky' enough on its own, without using beta versions.

If you do decide to go with FC 2.0, be prepared for headaches. I've heard everything from "It won't boot", to "It won't detect wireless/USB devices".

;)

Best of luck with your Linux installation.

Thanks for the replies.

It's not going to be my first Linux, my laptop and other comp are Gentoo systems and I've been using them for about 1.5 years. I just didn't want to install Gentoo for a third time, because everytime I do, I always go for stage 1, and you know, 16+ hours of compiling and setup is not fun.

I've taken your FC2 precautions into mind, and I might go straight for slackware.

Thanks again.
